*Edited Version of review after much consideration and prayer * Background: have been a Christian for 15 years and have been to numerous churches with different denominations. My Partner has been for 20 years. Both have years of ministry and evangelism expierence specifically in street ministry and youth ministry. Following is a review of different parts that has been from a 1.5 time spans of being in attendance. Service : Does teach from the Bible with historical accuracy and relatability. The music is Christ centered and very though out. Small Groups: Has good small groups with different stages of life and with book/ studies that are biblical Volunteer/ Service: Had good ideas and does intend to reach out to the community to have serve day. Connected to community. In the serve team in the church from what I have seen very disorganized with a lack of clear communication. Is not open for suggestions or changes and can see it as a threat. The young man ( unordained pastor) who is over this aspect does not communicate well and has made passive aggressive comments to my partner concerning church attendance. I think that the ability communicate in a thoughtful, biblical and mature way should be the expectation of anyone who is a pastor in the church. Titus 1:7 This is only for Tech, Gretting and Coffee. Worship team does not apply. Care Team: Does have a counseling. Does have a strong leaders who are men and women to help encourage and lead. Some comments that have made concerning infertility/ child loss were insensitive. Adoption is a very serious step and process which takes years of paperwork, home visits and preparation. It is not a fix for infertility and child loss. Morals/ Biblical convictions: I think it is important that a church should use the Matthew 18 rule when it comes to conflict within the church body for a number of reasons. It especially should be practiced among leadership to their flock that should be an example. Also please remember James 3:1 pastors will be judged to a higher standard by God to how they led in their ministry on earth. Also I must say that in a church private information and confidential information should be used in the upmost care. If you are indulging people buisness or shortcomings or hurts to other for ill or selfish intent know that it is displeasing to God. Romans 1:29 This review is not for ill intent but to help other that have expierence trauma and hurt in church to find home in clarity that God loves you and your voice matters. š¤ To whom it may concern I hope that this helps sharpen you as a leader and know that what you say and do and lead and operate your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis church is incredibly loving, caring, and welcoming and most importantly to me, genuine. It starts from the top down, and by that I mean that it refreshingly starts with God! Leading the way for the staff, is the senior Pastor Brian Burton, who allows God to speak through him and guide his sermons by unapologetically speaking God's word. Pastor Burton largely and justifiably sticks to scripture and doesn't deviate with an excess of opinion-based ideals or plans for life, but more-so gives excellent explanations of how the scripture can be applied to everyday life. Pastor Burton's sense of historical significance and his explanation of backstories of the times at hand or the history of the situation surrounding the scripture makes the Bible come to life for myself and helps a lifelong church-goer understand that much more, and it is truly appreciated by myself and many others. Summerbrook is very blessed to have someone like Brian, who puts so much of himself and his heart for God in each of his sermons. Summerbrook has a group of excellent supporting pastors, deacons and works its way through the entire church staff who all work in unison to make your visit a wonderful experience, whether it is your first visit or if you've been a member of the church for years. As a sidenote, I happened across another review comparing Summerbrook to Seacoast(?) and having personally been to both on several occasions, we're talking apples and oranges about as much as you possibly can. Seacoast is a very nice and pleasant place of worship and I know the family of the pastor, but again apples and...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePastor Brian obviously devotes a lot of study and prayer to his sermons. His messages are not only solid, but they also have a lot of depth. He is not afraid to challenge us when we need it, although he always makes it clear that he is speaking as a fellow sojourner on the path to being like Jesus.
The youth ministry ("Collision") is very strong. Pastor Tim's teaching is excellent, very real and practical. Our teens have a lot of fun, too.
Although Summerbrook is growing rapidly, there is plenty of opportunity for friendship in our community groups. Typically 10 - 12 members per group meet in a home each week to share fellowship, food, study and prayer. The groups are a great way to get to know people in the church, and more importantly to grow in discipleship.
The women's ministry events have enjoyed outstanding participation. This is another area in which God is...
