We've been camping here for probably 20 years with family and have usually had wonderful stays. The past couple years, this year especially, have not been so great.
First of all bathrooms/shower houses are absolutely disgusting and lacking upkeep. Cabins could use maintenance. Our porch light bulb was out and there was someone's fake eyelash stuck to the headboard of the bed.
The DCNR/park rangers fly around the campground so frequently during the day, staring into your campsite just looking to scold you for bikes being parked too close to the road etc. But then after 10 Pm, large groups are blasting music and yelling and they are no where around to enforce quiet time. Then the next day they passive aggressively implied we were being loud when we definitely were quiet in our cabins trying to sleep by 10:15 pm while parties raged around us. Somebody must have reported noise from the wrong campsite and they didnt bother to check or verify. Last time we were there we were sitting around the fire when a ranger jumped out of his truck, ran to our cabin and was about ready to start pounding on the door where a child was napping. I stopped him and asked what was wrong and he said "you can't have alcohol here!!!," pointing to my COFFEE SYRUPS sitting on the railing. No apology for disturbing our peace.
This year we were in the middle of the lake paddleboarding and we were hollered at with a bull horn to come to shore. They made us carry our paddleboards and walk back to camp because we did not have a launch pass. We didn't realize we needed those for inflatable paddlboards. We've paddleboarded in many lakes, oceans, rivers and never had an issue. We could have been more respectful and cooperative, because we now realize we were technically in the wrong, but their ignorance and arrogance was infuriating.
One of them was fussing at my mom for not having a life vest on her paddleboard. SHE WAS WEARING IT.
They tried to tell us our kids puddlejumpers are not coast gaurd approved when they clearly are marked US COAST GUARD APPROVED.
Overall we had a good time despite their efforts to ruin any good natured fun we...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this lake for over 20 plus years, camping, cabining and just a day for family fun in the picnic area. Well yesterday was supposed to be family fun in the picnic area. I showed up pretty early so I can get a picnic site. As my family was running a little late….by the time they got there, they were told the lake is at full capacity. Which it wasn’t. The picnic area was not at full capacity. I tried speaking to a park ranger explaining that they had our food and that the picnic area was not at full capacity. As I was standing there talking to him, he was not friendly and he was a bit cranky and rude but as I was standing there talking with him people were leaving the beach area , like 4 vehicles so then I had said ok… there 4 cars are leaving now it’s not at full capacity, can my family please come in? He insists that doesn’t matter. Then more cars were leaving and he still wouldn’t let them in. Ok, so now all these cars are leaving and your still not gonna let me family in? He got more nasty with me he said…. Ya know what? I don’t care , they are not coming in. I called the office and spoke with someone. Said how people ( cars ) are leaving and how my family was out there waiting to get in. The guy on the phone said…. I don’t care, they are not getting in and hung up. Never ever did I ever experience this before or never been treated like this before while my stay at this place. I packed up and left. They wouldn’t refund me my...
Read moreBeing in originally from Jim Thorpe, It was nice to get away with my fiancé for a few days, but we were expecting a little more relaxation than we got. The sites are very close to one another and so you don’t get much privacy at your site. The people next to us set up at two different sites, one being next to us and one being directly behind us and they had multiple adults and multiple children that were just walking around through our site that we paid for and other peoples sites. When you first get there, you’re greeted by a not so nice check in young kid and they just slide you this paper and tell you to initial next to the rules of the park. However, they don’t enforce the rules because the Park Ranger drove past us multiple times and saw that the people next to us had multiple vehicles to one site (you’re told 1 per site) and the kids screamed and carried on past quiet hours and again Park Rangers didn’t seem to care. You’re expected to carry/drive all your trash to the dumpsters located at the very front of the entrance to the sites as they don’t have any dumpsters around close. The Jim Thorpe Trolly made multiple stops in, ringing bells and chanting and carrying on.. I’m not sure why a tourist bus is going into a Campground but we thought it was a little strange to be looked at like an attraction when you’re just trying to relax. It is nice and close to the water and the...
