A Perfect Spot for Outdoor Activities and RelaxationMauch Chunk Lake in Jim Thorpe, PA, is a hidden gem that offers something for everyone. Whether you're into boating, fishing, or swimming, this place has it all. Only electric boats are allowed, making it an ideal stop for kayaking and paddleboarding. It's especially peaceful during weekdays when it's less crowded. You can bring your own kayak or paddleboard, or rent one at Launch A for a fee. Just make sure your boat is registered! The lake offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and it's a perfect spot for capturing stunning sunset photos from the water. They have a designated swimming area, which requires a small fee to enter, but Launch A and Launch B entries are free. The area is also dog-friendly, with plenty of nice trails for walking or hiking. The Switchback Hiking Trail is my personal favorite—it's easy and offers great views. For those who prefer to stay on land, there are also options for camping and picnicking for a fee, as well as benches where you can sit back and enjoy the serene views. Mauch Chunk Lake is a beautiful, quiet, and peaceful place to relax and immerse yourself in nature. Highly recommended for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors!

We loved this gem of a county campground that was recommended to us by relatives who live in Jim Thorpe. We stayed at site 119 on the lake shore for 2 nights during the week for $80 since we are not Carbon County residents. The campground seemed to be largely empty - maybe 20% occupancy? - save the cabins, which seemed full. Loved the well kept wooded campsites, clean bathrooms and well stocked camp store. Listening to hooting owls at night was a bonus. Very conveniently located close to Jim Thorpe & tons of outdoor activities along the Lehigh River Gorge. The bathrooms are outdated, but clean & functional. We found the campsite numbering system confusing as they are not sequential and at least for #119, numbered backwards against the one-way traffic. Signage could be better as we drove past it twice in the dark of night. But hey, it all just added to the camping experience. We hope to be back, and you should, too.

A place to enjoy alone or with the family, it has an area to make a grill, with tables, it is a bit neglected but it does the job. It has an area to bathe in the river, there is a spa with a security limit and saves lives. You can take fast food or eat something fast since they have a small sale. They were only accepting cash. It has a bathroom and changing room area. It has parking lots. Good signage and roads. It has other areas for those who want to camp and can set up their tents and awnings. It is separated from the spa area and the grill area. They also have another area for small trailers. $10 cash is charged per person. In general you can have a nice day, it's up to you. It is close to the tourist area of Jim Thorpe and you can visit the shops and take the train. I recommend it and would go back…

We were in Jim Thorpe for a few hours on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and saw a sign for the lake on our way out of town so we stopped over to check it out. We ended up a the beach. There is an admission charge to get in and I would say it’s worth it. They have lifeguards in duty, a bath house and concessions. There were not too many people there when we got there, again this was a Sunday later in the afternoon into the evening. Seemed like a nice place to bring kids instead of going the whole way to the coast. I believe they have camping and boat rentals as well. Probably hiking trails too. Cool place to spend some time and just minutes from town.

I went yesterday to the park with my family (4 people in total. 2 adults and 2 kids 12-9 years old). I would like to say something. If you want to go to the park, I really recommend you to check all the information before you go to avoid any surprise. I wasn't aware of the fees. They charge $10 per person, so they charged me $40 in total. I would like to encourage them to charge per car instead of person because it would make it more affordable for the families to enjoy the park. I can't even imagine a family of 7 or 8 people paying $70 or $80 dollars just to go to the park to swim.😔 I personally think it's too much. Don't you think so?
