The Mauch Chunk Lake Park is located in the Boroughs of Jim Thorpe. Itâs in Carbon County, less than an hourâs drive north of Allentown. I am not saying it's worth it or not, that's up to you but if you are in this area, visiting Jim Thorpe, you must come here.
While lodging at this park, you can enjoy the art of Mother Nature on the 2.8-mile man-made Mauch Chunk Lake.
Swimming is one of the most popular activities at Mauch Chunk Lake, but you can only do it while lifeguards are on duty. On the beach, visitors can enjoy access to play equipment for children, a food and refreshment stand, and a beach pavilion. You canât bring your pets.
Fee: beach access is not free. Daily admission to the beach area is $3 for adults and $2 for children over 3 years old. Non-county residents pay a higher fee of $10 per adult and $7 per child.
The park, where the lake is, itâs full of activities. Camping: YES!! From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the camping rate is $20/per night for county residents and $40/per night for non-county residents.

Read moreI have rented a cabin here four times. Three of the times have been the last 3 years. The other time was almost 10 years ago. I really wish this paradise was not discovered by the same type of crowd that ruined Beltsville Lake. Despite that, I am a county resident and I love coming to the lake for camping and kayaking. Last year we had several bald eagle sightings, this year it was herons. I read other people's comments that the park rangers weren't friendly, not true, I think they are very friendly and helpful. I love that no motor boats are allowed. This makes it very calm and peaceful...
Read moreRented a cabin for a few days. Cabin was clean and close to the bathhouse. Bathhouse was clean, but fairly dated. The water in the shower was either cold or painfully hot - no in between.
We basically had no internet access (we have Verizon), but that could be viewed as a positive đ.
The staff was not at all helpful. When asked for tips of things to do, or places to go, or even more information about the park we got essentially no assistance. They were no rude or unfriendly, just not helpful. We met a random local while on a hike that was of 100% more helpful with local information.
Despite this we had a great time. The lake is clean, kayaking was great and biking was fun.
Highly recommend the nearby nature center and the Number 9 mine...
