We were the only Native American tribe to help the Americans years later we dug clay and infrequently visited General Thomas Sumter in Stateburg South Carolina. We highly respect the man for some time I was not able to gain access, I have been visiting the memorial for years and I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see that the memorial had been shown the respect that it deserved. Read moreThis is a small memorial to one of the greatest Revolutionary Generals. If you are expecting to see Hope House Plantation note it burned down in the 1930's. Even without the house it is a small peaceful place to listen to local birds. I'd suggest doing most of your research on Thomas Sumter and Hope House Plantation prior to visiting as there is little information on the grounds as it just skims the surface of his life and if I remember doesn't mention much about his son.

Read moreReally small historical park/gravesite. Looks like someone does some upkeep as there is always new flags, sometimes flowers, and even gets a Christmas wreath. Lots of squirrels. When alone the sounds of the leaves can be a bit creepy. There's a few benches. The driveway to the park starts at the end of a dead end street and has very little parking. It's in a residential area and there are signs leading up to it. Definitely a must visit if you like history or just want to see...
