We were excited to finally make it to Bill's this year for apple picking. We were a little put off by the experience. When you pull into the lot, there are "no media" signs which we thought was weird. However the reasoning became clear later. After parking and going to enter the farm, there are signs saying if you want to wear a mask go for it, but their employees wouldn't because they can maintain social distancing. Which we thought was reasonable, until we started interacting with the staff.
There were multiple positions that can't social distance while doing their job (i.e. checkout staff or ice cream counter staff) not wearing masks. We didn't go towards the concessions area due to the number of people over there, so I can't comment on the staff serving the food. Some staff were wearing masks around the property, but I think that is a personal preference for them and not mandated by the employer.
Outside of staff, there were very limited people with masks including the dozens of children playing with each other near the play area. People weren't socially distancing very well except in the orchards, but there weren't many apples to pick anyways (see below) to warrant a ton of people gathered in the orchards.
We were also disappointed that even early in the day (12:30 pm ish), there were only granny smiths that could be picked, zero red apples were available for picking that were listed "for the day".
Overall, they lose two stars for the mask issue and apple availability. However, I feel like in a non-COVID era, this would be a very fun environment to enjoy fall. I just want others to be aware that if you are not comfortable being around people not masked, don't go during COVID. When we went there wasn't a single review on this topic on Google and I wish there was, so I'm just...
Read moreI’d heard great things about Bill’s Berry Farm and finally experienced it for myself. I brought my sister and nephews, from Texas, to pick fresh Bing and Rainier Cherries as well as blueberries. Everyone had a great time. The boys enjoyed the playground area while we waited for my daughter. The boys enjoyed picking the cherries and were even more excited to pick the blueberries. Our total haul ended up yielding 4 gallon bags of bing cherries, 2 quart size bags of Rainer cherries, and 5 quart bags of blueberries. I sent half of the haul back to Texas for my family there. They traveled well, via plane, to the Dallas/Fort Worth airport. My family in Texas raves about how great both the cherries and blueberries were. My husband loved them as well and wants me to get more blueberries and to bring home raspberries as well. I...
Read moreWe had a blast making cider! Walked through the pretty orchards and picked a bucket's worth of Jonasgold apples. Then made some cider with other apples because we thought you make the cider from what you pick. haha oh well. Their cider making process is simple and easy (only one apple grinder was working that day so it was slower due to waiting for a turn to use it). After it was all made, we rode back on the hay ride with a really relaxed farm dog.
The farm recreational area is a lovely shaded spot with a cool little playground for kids, BBQ and donuts area, gift shop (I got a fancy bottle opener) and even ice cream stand. Really cute and super friendly worker chatted with us while serving us our ice cream. In fact, all the workers there are really friendly.
A must go if you want to have fun for a...
