So I planned an adventure to the petrified forest and added this place to the list.. I didn't estimate enough time after going in and seeing how big and detailed all of the exhibits are.. It was a very humbling experience for me as I walked through reading the quotes of wisdom from the native Americans who lived here for thousands of years.. these people are amazing and we have so much to learn from them about living at one with the land and nature as well as with each other... definitely recommend stopping by and checking it out for yourself just take some extra time when you do.. the young lady working there was so nice and friendly and made the experience over the top and deserves more than 5 stars.. thank you

This place is a must see if are in this area or even if you live close by. The Wanapum people are were wise and still are. I did notice that there was no one visiting here and it's sad that all the culture and wisdom we can learn from the people who know the land best. And be sure and take a minute and talk with Stacy she so kind and has a lot of knowledge to share. There is not many pictures because the tribe ask that you not take pictures inside the museum. And i told Stacy that i respect that request and did not take any pictures inside of the museum . Please do the same if you visit. Thank you in advance.

This is not a museum in the ordinary sense. It is a statement; an elegant and artful presentation about the people who occupy this place; now and in the ancient past. The Wanapum never signed a treaty or fought a war (with our government). They never gave up their land. We are a temporary aberration; they will still be here long after we are gone.

I worked for the PUD for 30 years. During that time, I became acquainted with several of the Wanapums, including Chief Rex Buck, Jr., whom I worked with frequently when he was an Electrical Forman at Priest Rapids Dam. The Wanapums are a gentle people and a pleasure to deal with. The new Heritage Center at Priest Rapids Dam has wonderful exhibits that tell the story of the Wanapums. It's a different experience than the old visitor center at Wanapum Dam, as the new one focuses solely upon the Wanapums. I highly recommend making a detour to view the exhibits if you are in the area. I only gave the rating 4 stars because the exhibits and gift shop are not...
