There's one swing that'll melt down faster than Tiger Woods at the 2015 U.S. Open - and you'll find it here at Fort Rock Park in Sunriver, Oregon. In a child’s imagination, a local parks play structure can become anything their creative little minds can think of. A pirate ship, a castle maybe. I brought my three year old grandson here on a warm 82°day at the beginning of June. It wasn't pirate ships & castles I thought about when my grandbabe and I made our way to the top of the play structure in an attempt to have a slide race. It was late morning, but with little to no shade covering the play structures, swings etc. The park felt like the Sahara desert and the slide was like the surface of Venus, unsuitable for any form of play. The slides were scorching hot. I was curious as to just how hot they actually were. I asked my husband to come by and bring an infrared temperature reader. We were absolutely shocked at the results (see photo) The American Burn Association says a piece of playground equipment at 140° F can take as little as three seconds to get a second-degree burn and five seconds to get a third-degree burn. The slides at Fort Rock Park were a whopping 153° F That is unacceptable! For an area that is known for tourism, outdoor recreation and a popular vacation destination, saying this park is a disappointment would be an understatement. Shame on the SROA Sunriver Owners...
Read moreGorgeous weather with 40 deg F nights and 85 F days in July means that active playtime is best around 9:30 to 11 for temperatures in the seventies. The playground is well maintained yet with a natural layer of pine needles, cones, river gravel, sand, and nice shade from several groves of Pines. The ground was dry even though there had been thunderstorms the previous three days. The park's field was luxuriously green but wasn't soggy or damp and a pleasure to walk and sit upon. The restrooms are clean and modern. There are some patches of natural, undeveloped, strips which serve as separators between the contrasting areas of the park, like the field and tennis courts and playground. Our kids found a half dozen 4-leaf and one 5-leaf clover in...
Read moreI grew up playing at this park from years ago. They’ve been a great job at keeping it up from adding new place to upgrading the tennis courts and gazebos. And the grass always seems to be in good condition. It’s fun to bring my children back to a place I got to play at when I was young. if you’re definitely worth coming here. Plus, it’s easy access either via car or the bike path. Plenty of things to do from the playground to volleyball to baseball to soccer to tennis to the gazebos and a basketball court are just some of the fun things...
