We stayed in Cabin 1 (smaller cabin) Loop S (South Loop). We did have phone service, between LTE and 5G depending on where we were in the park. I know that doesn’t matter to some people but we didn’t have our kid with us and wanted to keep in contact with grandma and grandpa if something happened. It’s about 10ish minutes from La Pine which has a Dollar General and Rays Grocer if you forgot something. Getting into the cabin was easy, we reserved it online and the door was open with key on the table when we got there. Cabin 1 is right across from the hosts who were super nice, we met two of them on a walk with our dogs first thing. Firewood was $5 a bundle, cash only and is held at the hosts area. The cabin was super clean and well maintained, pretty plain but very comfortable. The beds are queens, with a four inch sealed padded mat that was actually pretty comfortable but if you require extra back support an air mattress would be a good idea. There are four wooden chairs inside and a small table for eating and a tiny desk. The bathrooms and showers are basic but super clean. There is a family shower and restroom separate. Between the bathrooms and showers is a smaller lodge type room for meetings or family gatherings with kid activities and that also had a refrigerator in it. There is a small disc golf course, I think maybe four holes(?). We didn’t get a chance to check out the dog exercise area but they do have one not too far down the road. Lots of people had their dogs in camp with them and all but two dogs were leashed or had leads, which was the only issue we had (if your dogs don’t have recall don’t let them just roam around please) but that was not the parks fault. We will be back, probably rent the deluxe cabin next time only because we are going to bring some family with us. I can see it filling up fast so I would suggest jumping on your reservation if you’re thinking about it.

We stayed two nights at La Pine state park the end of September. We were in the South Loop site #24. We have a 42 foot 5th wheel. The site offered plenty of space and easily to pull into. However the pull through to leave will not work for someone as big as us. The tree placement and bend in the road make it impossible to drive out. It was super simple to back out of the site though. The park is very nicely kept nice paved roads with each spot being paved also. It did seem that someone swept away all the pine needles from our site leaving us with a very dusty spot. The dirt was super fine and soft, our kids and dogs loved it. There is a common grassy area in the middle of the loop with the bathhouse there also. I did not use it but did look in. It looked nice and clean. The nearly Deschutes River is beautiful and totally silent. There are trails all throughout the park, perfect for little kids to run around on or ride bikes. Super easy trails, however very dusty. If you don’t want dirt on everything maybe not the place. Close enough for a day trip to Crater Lake and the nearby town of Sunriver is really nice with places to eat and a cute shopping center vibe. We enjoyed our time at La Pine State Park.

Beautiful, clean, and quiet. We happened to be there when it was hot - 98°-102° and stayed in a cabin. Yes, the cabins get hot during the day, but the nights are cool so you can sleep. We found that keeping the windows open but the curtains drawn during the day helped, and we slept with the windows open. The ceiling fan helps, but I recommend you take individual fans to place by your bed at night if you are visiting in the summer. It was about 70° at 11pm, but by 3am it had cooled to 55°. The cabins are spacious with big bathrooms. I need ADA accommodations and can say the paths out front are difficult. I'm not in a wheelchair and had to be very careful when walking from the picnic table to the ramp. Once on the ramp, everything was great. I did speak with a nice park ranger who works on ADA safety and suggested some changes and he listened to all my issues. We loved that the park is way off any hwy or big road. It's super quiet with no truck or traffic noise. All of the visitors were there for one sport or another - kayak, canoe, paddle board, fishing, biking - the park cleared out early with folks back by dinner. We loved our stay. Can't wait to visit again.

I would stay here again. Both camphosts were super friendly, willing to chat, and they are taking great care of the campground. Firewood is dry, well seasoned, and smells like campfire smoke should - no excessive, stinky smoke like most other places. It was still very early for camping so warm afternoons and comfortably cool evenings.

Middle and South loops are best suited for big trailers and Class A rigs, paved sites, several pull through sites. 50 amp electric is available. North loop roads are too narrow and rough for bigger rigs. Backing into sites is very tight. I watched a medium size 5th wheel take out a young pine tree while backing in. Only 20 amp service in North Loop.

If you like alpine forest with LOTS of towering pines, this is the place for you. The Deschutes River, most easily accessible from the South Loop, is beautiful and worthy of exploration. Big Tree, the biggest and oldest pine tree in Oregon, is worth a hike to see. Other great sights and activities all around the campground.

Town of La Pine (about 7 miles away) offers everything you may need during your stay.

If I sound like a sales person, I'm not. I am retired and travel full time every...
