We stayed at the RV Park for a few days. If you can, arrive in daylight. The sites are in the back of the park after you drive past a bunch of stuff. The office is a large building (for an check in office) on the right shortly after passing the water park. Stop there for a map and instructions. No water or sewer. We had 50 Amp electric. The call it 220 volt, but it is standard RV 50 Amp on two 110 legs. They also call it "full electric" which had me wondering if other places offer partial electric! Metro is just a short drive. Parking garage is a mess! Very confusing. Cost was about 5 bucks for the day. We bought metro cards at the station, but we would still be there trying to figure out the purchase machine if a staff member didn't feel sorry for the old dummies and push the correct buttons. Next time I would set up my phone to pay at the turnstile since it seems to be set up so you buy you fare ahead of time but you better know where you want to get on and off. We tend to fly by the seat of our pants and thought about changing our departure station, but we were concerned that the system might crash if we did! Back to the RV Park: We would definitely return to explore DC (with more time) next...
Read moreI grew up going to events in this park as a kid and concerts of local entertainment was good. I grew up playing summer basketball in this park and playing on the playgrounds or ring my bike or sled and it was fun! I played football on the hilltop of this park against other neighborhoods and it was fun. My Aunt R.I.P. worked in the museum from the time it opened until she passed two years ago and she was dedicated to that museum.
I was disappointed looking over and seeing weeds everywhere and buildings in that park that are rundown! It is sad for me to visit where I grew up which is the Capitol city look so trashy on the perimeters of the Reservoir Park. I have higher expectations for a place that is the Capitol city of a state. Where is the money, pride and attention going if not in the Capitol City attractions!?
I had a paper route as a kid and some of my route had me deliver on a few streets that were right along the side of the park. That was once a desired area and very clean in appearance.
We have to get better than that to make people want to stay and others want to come or...
Read moreSaw a free concert by the Harrisburg Symphony on this particular night (4th of July). When they refurbished this park about 20 years ago, they did a great job, but I was worried about whether or not they had upkeep money budgeted. Apparently they did, because here it is 20 years later and this is still a great park. The band shell is a cool artdeco concrete dome shaped structure with special sound reflective arcs that focus the sound outwards. Has updated lights for night use too. Folks sit on the lawn and bring picnic dinners for these events. The main feature of the park is the Civil War museum at the top of the hill (hill is a city water reservoir) which boasts commanding views Northward of the Susquehanna river gap through "First Mountain". I know what you're thinking - Is Harrisburg really a big civil war site? The answer to this doesn't matter too much since this is a great museum and, Harrisburg does have civil war history, like most Southern PA places. The park has a nice loop road for jogging, roller boarding...
