GPS took me down Whale Cove Road - wrong!- which dead ends at houses. Turned back around and drove a few miles and found the trailhead. You will need to walk down to the beach. Thereās only space for a couple cars to park here. Itās not really marked from the road, but there is a sign about 20 yards off the road. Sign says to walk at your own risk. There are a lot of tree roots, but itās fairly flat walking and shaded by trees. Not sure what the risk is. Perhaps it gets boggy, or some parts are underwater if thereās been a lot of rain.
I had the entire beach to myself on the first day of August. Kind of baffling why people crowd on to Acadia park beaches ( I did enjoy the park, not hating on Acadia), when there are spots like this with fine sand, a gentle slope into the water and a calm surf that would be great for kids. I donāt mind having the beach to myself. Iāve watched fog roll around. I started to get hot in the sun only to feel cool again when the clouds come back in. This kind of place is probably why a lot of us come to Maine. Glad I found it. Just make sure to be back at the ferry in plenty of time. Getting stuck on the island overnight with no shelter would not be a great way to...

When my Wife and I went, the water was pretty cold, but the beach was clean, and the crowds were much smaller than anything you find on Mount Desert Island. The ferry trip here can get full, and you might not even be able to get on the ferry if you dont arrive early enough, but this beach was worth the time invested to get here. Check it out if you want to get away from the crowds on the...
