Maumee State Forest — Attraction in Swanton

This is a great area showing history of what it was like in the 1800s prior the land getting destroyed - which now were having water problems with the Toledo water shed. I am 100% for land getting fixed for new forest growth and creating a new swamp. Its not the farmers land. There are huge political issues right now all over this region and Maumee to Toledo cause of how much money thats in it. I want you all to think about this, this whole area was like this all the way to Fort Wayne, IN and Lower Michigan as part of the Great Black Swamp. Sad, but its our generation that can fix the damage done by the past. Imagine NW Ohio becoming a future waterfowl hunting area, a growing eagle population, and cleaner water with a recovering water quality. It will NEVER be like that when politics and money...

Our State Forest is also know as Oak openings. There are several entrances besides the main entrance. One entrance takes you to Evergreen Lake when I have observed people fishing. The main entrance takes you to a lake area t One can find a path and actually walk around the lake. There are several shelters along t path around the lake where you can picnic. This is a place I visited as a child and adult. There has always been a playground with swings and slide. It has been improved over the years. A pavilion has also been erected near the parking lot. Went for the OHV area. Decent two track loops with sandy soil and some deep sandy spots. They have one single track loop which is very slow, tight and more exhausting than fun. The entire place is whooped out. Almost no high speed sections. Play area is small, almost sad. That said, for NW OH or NE IN, it is great! Worth a day if you live nearby. No loading dock at the staging area so...
