Good place to access the Mattaponi River. This ramp is located on Herring Creek in the Upper Zoar section of the state forest. Ramp is wood steps with a slide. The Mattaponi River is visible and just a short distance from this location. Property across from Herring Creek is posted no trespassing. There are two parking lots. There is a large parking lot with information kiosks at the entrance and a smaller parking lot at the ramp site. Both parking lots are gravel. Area is patrolled and I observed a conservation police officer talking...

Couple nice trails for hiking, access to Mattaponi for fishing, swimming, canoes and kayaking, dogs need to be leashed but you know how...
