Normally I would not give a hiking area with just 1.2 miles 5 stars, but this place actually is quite special. This preserve is absolutely filled with birds. There are so many wood peckers here, it’s bonkers. Including the gorgeous and less common red headed woodpeckers. If you stay near the rhino tree, that’s where many of the blue jays can be found. The observation deck overlooks a pond and has two benches to sit on. Lots of parking here including two dedicated handicapped spots at the trail head. The entire walk around is on a boardwalk and it is basically a circle, so you won’t get lost here. Read moreThe trail is a nice walk and will take about an 45 min to an hour at a relaxed pace. The whole path is a raised board walk and is very level and accessible. It also has several benches placed along the way if you need to rest. Unfortunately other than the trail and a small sitting area overlooking a pond, there aren't any other activities such a picnic or shelter areas that I saw. I've done many boardwalk trails all over the country and this is the 2nd longest one I have done (Congaree National Park in South Carolina being my longest one).
