It was in August of 2020 that I first came through here on a solo two-week road trip between Indiana, Glacier National Park, the Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone. Someone on Facebook suggested that this was a must-see in North Dakota, and I immediately added it to my itinerary—definitely a decision I did not regret for a moment.

This August, 2024, my husband and I took a road trip to the Badlands in South Dakota, and this destination felt like it belonged in our itinerary as naturally as water.

So, we did it! We drove through at the very end of August and spent some time in Regent, which included a stop at the gift shop. We were keen on purchasing a bumper sticker for the back of our RV, but the one they had was too big to look right. Even though we bought it, we decided we would print our own to represent our enjoyment of the Enchanted Highway. Who would have thought that a couple of nerds from Indiana would visit here, and one of us twice? :)

During my last visit, I recall fields and fields of sunflowers, so I was expecting the same abundance this time. However, I found more cornfields than sunflower fields on this trip. I did take pictures of the sunflowers on my last pass through.

The metal sculptures were just as awesome as I remembered, and they remain something so unique to behold. We started in Regent and stopped at every sculpture until we reached the highway, where we enjoyed a picnic at the last and most famous one.

Overall, it was a very cool and worthwhile stop—definitely time well spent and an unexpected gem in...

We were glad visited The Enchanted Highway ! It was a good photographer's opportunity - beautiful scenery and the sculptures are amazing, quirky and delightful. The Enchanted Highway begins at Exit 72 on I-94 near Gladstone and terminates 32 miles down the road in the small town of Regent. The First sculpture "Geese in Flight" is right on Interstate 94 at Exit 72, this is would be the beginning of the Enchanted Highway if you are headed south. All the large metal sculptures are placed along the county Highway 21 and every one has a parking area (except "Geese in Flight," which is viewable from adjacent interstate). Sculptures include (from I-94 Exit 72) Mile 0 – Geese in Flight Mile 3 – Deer Crossing Mile 15 – Grasshoppers in the Field Mile 19 – Fisherman’s Dream Mile 24 – Pheasants on the Prairie Mile 26 – Theodore Roosevelt Rides Again Mile 30 – World’s Largest Tin Family Mile 32 – Enchanted Castle Gift Shop (Regent) Mile 32.5 – Enchanted Castle Hotel, Knight and Dragon Sculpture If you have the time...

We took a day trip down the Enchanted Parkway and I would highly recommend that you take a short detour to visit if you are in the area or passing by. I had four children ages 8-12 and they all loved it! It was only a short distance between sites and we were all enthralled at each one. There are picnic tables, a maze, a life size stage coach and various other things to do and see at each site. To top it all off who can resist a castle at the end of the journey, complete with a drawbridge, suits of armour, a bar and separate dining room. We stopped at the gift shop for ice cream and were greeted by a wonderfully kind and helpful lady. We wrote a note to the artist and he stopped in to say hello and posed for a picture with the kids. This is an adventure for young and young at heart. I would highly recommend the drive. ( The artist had plans for more, they truly...

We love roadside attractions, especially the world’s largest ones. We didn’t find this one in our research for our roadtrip, but passed a sign advertising it so we pulled off the highway to check it out. Google says this is a collection of large metal sculptures along 100m Ave SW for roughly 30miles south of 94. The geese sculpture is right off 94 and visible from the highway. There’s a cute unpaved road leading up to the sculpture with miniature metal geese lining the way. We drove a few miles south down 100m Ave SW, but didn’t see anymore sculptures, so we turned around due to bad weather. It seems pretty cool, but we wish there was more information online so we could have added it to our itinerary prior to the billboard 2 miles before the exit.
