We enjoyed a quick 2-mile pre-fathers day Hike and Picnic. Had the dogs with us and enjoyed the scenery. Someone said the trails are not well maintained but we only saw a couple of large branches across the trail. Personally, we like jumping over the logs and large branches. The dogs get a kick out of it as well. The trail is open to horses so watch where your step or where your dogs roll around. We learned that the hard way. Fortunately, there is a water pump at the beginning of the trail and rinsed her off. We also agreed with another reviewer about the bathroom being well-maintained. Other than a small field mouse that made its way into the woman's washroom which added to our entertainment as I heard a squeal from my daughter and saw her run out. Not much of a camper but as soon as I gear up we'll try an overnight. We got there before 8 am on a Saturday and there was no one to be seen. Be safe and enjoy your visit.

This was my first visit to the park. I found some nice walking trails - the paths are easily found from the parking lots. I had hoped for a trail that follows the lake, but most trails just ended up at the next parking lot; it would be pretty difficult to get lost, however, which is a plus. There are many docks and benches that would be fantastic during warmer weather when there's time to sit and relax and enjoy the scenery. I only visited one section because I went in frigid weather, but from this snapshot experience, I will definitely venture out again. It is a lovely area, and a great place to get away, even if the escape is during a polar vortex during a pandemic. I can't wait to visit in the summer when I can kayak on the lake!!

Spent Labor Day weekend at Sangchris State Park Deer Run. Nice size lot. Backup site pretty level. Nice fire pit. Electrical 30 amps. Privy pits near our site. Get water at dump station on the way in. I was impressed with how quiet it was. Pretty full this weekend but no loud music, kids, or dogs. Well with the exception of my 1 year old Zeus. He likes to bark at anything that moves. Nice open space for games. Trees for shade. Close to lake for fishing. My husband thought he heard Bigfoot Friday night and took the dogs to search for him. No luck. So if you camp here .....be on the lookout. Friendly camphosts.

The area is beautiful. I rented my first cabin (#29) there. I had my youngest daughter and 3 of my grands staying with me. There were docks that you could fish or boat from. I had the larger cabin, with a big deck. Double set of bunk beds in the second room, and a full size bed in the front room, table with 2 folding chairs, heaters and air conditioner. The park hosts were very friendly and courteous. There's a fire pit/grill and picnic table for use at the cabins.

The downside to the cabin was a few small gaps in the wall that let water in and just needed resealed, and the other negative thing, more my personal issue, is what seemed to have become a tradition of people writing on the walls and when you were there. The writing took away from the beauty of the cabin. Sorry, but to me it was more like graffiti.

Other than that my grands had a blast and couldn't stop bragging to their mom and dad about getting to be in a cabin. It was a first for them too. Hopefully next time I can have all the...

Me and my family of 5 were traveling from northern Michigan back to kc and decided to camp halfway home cuz our kids first week of camping went fantastic so we extended it a night and saved ourselves too long of a drive home in one day. We had a reservation set somewhere we were unsure of and I looked at the reviews and they were actually scary so we came across this place and it was our best camping experience the whole trip. Wonderful people running it, first come first serve and we found a spot right next to the water. Kids had their tiny tent and the wife and I slept in our hammock just a few feet from the fishing dock and water. Super peaceful, beautiful scenery to wake up too. 12/10 do recommend. I never thought I'd say this but, I'd like to go back to Illinois for camping as long...
