Not a bad area and since I couldn't find many reviews from my peers this is my perspective for our sport. Backpacking: TONS of P.U.D.S with very few views of anything there's a waterfall & a couple hill top ponds. The trail itself is best suited for horses or mountain bikes, its wide and trimmed back but covered in gravel which makes it hard on your feet and if you backpack with your dog they will be sure to hate it as well. Camping along the trail is difficult very few places to set up. The controlled burns they've done in the past would of added a ton of flat campable areas if it wasn't for the plants that filled those cleared spaces being thorn bushes (everywhere). I personally wouldn't recommend this area of Hoosier for backpacking. But geocaching for sure there are many hidden on this trail, keep in mind most are more than a tenth of a mile off trail & will involve bushwacking through the...
Read moreI love the outdoors, and it makes me sad to think back when I was a kid at the way are national forest and state forest looked then compared to today. I wish the state would spend more money on mowing, having attendant's on duty and make our beautiful county more attractive to tourists and the residents here in Perry county. They were mowing but the beach is less then half the size, there is alot off trees in the water and the whole place just needs a once over. I hope we can start taking more pride in our natural resources and display their beauty for all to see and future...
Read moreWe entered at the Carter Botom trail head. Beautiful diverse and one of the nicest forests in the area. No water or bathrooms near the section of trail that we hike 5 miles in and out. 10 miles total. 5 hours. Nice dirt and gravel trail without any rocks. Can be muddy at times and the ticks were very much present. The section of the trail that we were on was rather hilly and very forested. At one moment the forest thinned out for about .5 miles at the higher elevation. Modertly strenuous of you are in excellent physical condition. Will return to visit...
