5 stars for the park itself, it's one of my favorite waterfalls in TN! I'm FROM Nashville and knew about this park years ago. about 2+ years ago, this park was an amazing visit. a great hike and a great waterfall.
nowadays it's overrun by people and the park staff doesn't do enough to cut people off once capacity has been reached
not to mention, most of the people that hike this trail do absolutely NO research on the things they'll need to visit. this park is VERY rugged and rocky and NOT meant for children, especially small ones, yet people were bringing INFANTS and wearing SANDALS, BABIES and TODDLERS with NO lifejacket. this should NOT be the first place you ever go hiking, but it's very obvious most people that go on this trail have never ever hiked before.
the people are what makes this park unbearable. nobody is really rude by any means and shares the watering hole well, there's just simply too many. it isnt enjoyable anymore. no wonder several people and children have died here; crowding and uneducated hikers that cant even bother to google what they need before the trip make the place dangerous as hell and i dont wanna put myself at risk visiting when it's like that.
i'm better off with my memory of what the park used to be than visiting it and getting mad or disappointed. i thought the whole reason to go hiking was to get AWAY from people lol. if you are considering visiting this park, please think twice. it's great but it isnt worth it most...
ย ย ย Read moreDefinitely worth the trip! We visited from Clarksville, TN. Took about a 2 hour drive. It was myself and 4 kids (18, 15, 5, and 3). All the reviews and site caution this hike for kids. We all successfully made it to the gorge and the kids enjoyed swimming. I think the worst part of the hike were the rocks just outside the swimming area that made it somewhat challenging with little ones. There is no clear trail and you enter and cross the creek bed multiple times. As long as you can hold your kids hands and help guide them across the rocks, itโs manageable. If not, I would caution bringing small children. There were however tons of kids at the gorge. The experience will ultimately depend on your experience as a hiker, and your kids ability to listen and be cautious of slippery rocks. They do provide life vests for children when you get to the gorge and I highly recommend swimming shoes with good grips! Took us almost an hour to hike down (kids stopped multiple times to play along the way) and about 35 mins to...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place is an adventure back in time. The multiple strange falls is exquisite and breath taking. On a hot day this place can become crowded so prepare for that. Take plenty of snacks and water as it's a long way off. The water is not too deep in most places can be walked in. The water stays fresh and clean and cold due to the constant refreshing of the water coming over the falls into the lower pools. There is a decent sized our rim area to sit out of the water but again that is usually full of people on a hot crowded day. Sharing the space is easier as of course most people would be in the water. Make sure you stay safe and I suggest bringing bug spray and water shoes to wear into the water. Some of the rocks are a touch slick but due to constant use miss summer they become less slick due to activity. Have fun and enjoy your trip to an...
