Great trail that I will definitely take friends back to! The parking area is large, with plenty of spots to park. The trail is very easy to follow. Once you get to the end of the wide forest road trail there is a trailhead sign and information board. Take the trail to the right, which is uphill from there, crossing streams (either by bridge or placed rock steps), and navigating over rocks and roots. You are rewarded at the top of the trail with Margarette Falls. To be a little more adventuresome, continue up the mountainside to the right of Margarette Falls. Look off to your left about 3/4 of the way towards the top of the well traveled area, and you will see an orange flag on a branch. Take that trail which guides you past Margarette Falls, down to cross the stream, then back across again, until you are actually working your way up the stream bed following the orange and pink flags that signal the way to Bailey Falls. You will do plenty of climbing over boulders and fallen tree trucks, but take it slow and easy and you will get to these amazing falls without any issues. Bailey Falls is really worth the extra hike - and it isn’t that far up stream. At Bailey Falls, you will see an upper fall flowing into it, and I suppose the trail on the left rock wall might lead up to that. There is a rope assist to get up the wall to what looks to be a trail uphill above Bailey Falls, but I didn’t take it to see where it led. Maybe next time. I’ll definitely be coming back for a visit! Plan on at least 2 hours here to...
Read moreAn Absolutely-Have To Do! I won't lie, parts of the trail going to Margarette Falls, could be a little tantalizing for smaller children and elderly adults; but well worth the persistence. I am not an avid hiker but have been out hiking a handful of times. Total trip time equalled: two hours and twenty minutes; that is including walking in, plenty of pit stops-prior to the biggest fall, taking pictures and hanging out at the falls, as well as walking back out to the car. You will want to bring or wear: water shoes or slip resistant soles, walking stick, bug spray, swim suit, towel, drink(s), possibly-a snack, flashlight, & camera! I wore flip flops; making it all the way in and out without injury, but I don't recommend! There are plenty of "marked" trails to get lost upon, plenty of parking, and plenty of space to have your own personal space, for making new memories. Give nature a chance to show you all her glory, you shouldn't be...
Read moreThis is one of my new favorites! Margarette Falls is gorgeous and if you continue on up to Bailey Falls it is a treat, too. Getting to Margarette is pretty easy, although the trail is steadily up hill and has a lot of rocks, there are a lot of small Cascades and spots you can stop along the way. The wildflowers are starting to bloom and plenty of salamanders. This trail is rated dog (leashed of course) and child friendly however if you choose to go to Bailey Falls I would NOT recommend bringing either, it is an unmarked off trail hike that is very steep up the right side embankment next to Margarette Falls and has several Creek crossings with many slippery rocks and a couple rock scrambles 10 feet and higher. Since I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else and we went to the right at first grr. Once you cross the creek and get to where the Creek forks stay to the left!! It's not much farther...
