The actual mound bottom is off limits to the public, and impossible to see from across the river in the summer. "Permit required", it says outside the approach to the mound. "Surveillance cameras in use", it says. "Protected area", it says. Don't leave any trash out there, for God's sake.

Incredible! Most of the park is blocked off but if you can get a tour, do it. 12 mounds over about 100 acres, surrounded by the harpeth river. You can also climb a nearby bluff and find an old petroglyph (rock carving). Very fascinating!

Only open for escorted ranger tours. The guide was very knowledgeable and patient with my many questions. Magical, sacred. Must be preserved.

Roy & I took the short hike to the Indian mounds at Mound Bottom this afternoon. Aaron Deter-Wolf | Prehistoric Archaeologist from Tennessee Division of Archaeology led us & shared Indian history dating back to the Mississippian period. The kids were full of great questions & happy to be out in nature. We climbed the largest mound and enjoyed the view. We lunched on the watermelon & blueberries I stashed in my backpack. A good time...

I loved my first visit which was during the week. The guide, my friend, and I hiked to the top of the ceremonial mound and sat there in the October breeze looking over the area as though the ceremony was happening. We could feel the energy. The second visit was so much less personal with a larger group, very structured, and didn't allow for anything but a lecture on the history and time for a few pictures. It was...

Mound Bottom and the surrounding area, including Mace Bluff which is located across the river from the mounds, is an absolute must see for anyone interested in Native American history, and for any history buffs in general. The State of Tennessee has done a wonderful job with this...
