Beautiful trail to the top of the mountain. The walking trail at the top to the elk viewing platform is worth the walk. It's about a mile each way but not too strenuous. There's a resting bench about halfway. Be careful we did see a couple snakes on the walking trail. The views are amazing once to the viewing platform. Saw about 30-40 elk with lots of babies and several turkey. Only downfall was the port a potty. Also make sure you get your pass off the state website and have it on your phone! Seen lots of people getting tickets for not...

You can also download the sunquist maps from an app for $10 but note it just gives you details on which maps are which difficulty - I also downloaded the X app to track where we actually were. I went between both apps to guide us. Also be aware of which Cumberland co roads you can and can’t travel on with the side x side. If you stay near the trails in LaFollette, you can ride from your lodging to the trails! We stayed at an Airbnb Lake Mesa and traveled in. Never had to move...
