Me and my wife stayed here for a fun getaway for the week. The location was perfect for what we were looking for! It’s convenient to great hiking and only 15 minutes from downtown.

The sites were decent. We pulled a camper, so having full hookups was great. They were pretty close together, but our main complaint would be the trees! They were very low hanging and made it difficult for us fully extend the camper awning.

The campground itself was pretty good. Everything was well kept and very clean! The bathrooms were very nice. But the stall doors were a little concerning, there was about an 18” gap from the floor to the bottom of the stall door, and if you are over 6 ft you can probably look right over with ease. And with it being a gender neutral bathroom it was a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise the facilities seemed very well maintained and in good working order.

The last thing I will mention is we weren’t super happy with some of the staff/customer service. For the most part everyone was polite, we talked with the people in the camp store for a while and they were very helpful in answering questions about cave tours etc. But some of the other camp staff was very disrespectful to us. A short explanation, we were out later one night getting dinner in town (we probably drove back in the campsite probably a little after 8). And two employees followed us in on a golf cart and respectfully told us we were going too fast. The speed limit in the campground is 10mph, and if I was going over it would not have been by too much. But I understood their concern and told them I would try and go slower next time. Then the next night we came in probably closer to 8:30 that evening. This time me and my wife were both paying close attention to the speedometer. Definitely keeping it well under 10, trying to be respectful. We got back to our site and had settled in our camper. 30 minutes later (around 9:00!!) two employees came knocking on our camper door. They were very disrespectful and told me I was driving way too fast! And were pretty rude to me and threatened to kick me out without a refund if they caught me driving that fast again. In their defense I drive an older f-350 (stock), so it is pretty loud by nature, but it is frustrating to get threatened like that when I don’t think I could go any slower. And that late at night so long after I had driven through, it just seemed very unnecessary. And like I said before, some of the staff seemed very kind, but others were disrespectful and not super helpful.

All in all our experience was good. The location was perfect and the campground was surrounded by so many beautiful sites and fun activities, which made for a wonderful getaway. Not sure yet if the location outweighs the downsides we experienced, but I would probably give it a...

My Girl Scout group and I enjoyed our time at the Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground. We stayed for a night and visited the caverns, too. The check-in process was easy. The lady at the office was professional, friendly, and efficient. She had a good sense of humor and knowledgeably directed my group to the campsites that would best meet our needs. We reserved four campsites for four Girl Scout families with sixteen people. They were clean and mostly shaded, and my group was placed so we could easily share supplies and interact. We had a code for the bathrooms closest to us. They were clean and had toilets and showers. The men's and women's restrooms were separated by a laundry room. Family restrooms and showers were located next to the office. They smelled new, were air-conditioned, and the showers were great. Families who don't want to separate to take showers, like a mom and a toddler son, would benefit from using these bathrooms. The staff were friendly and efficient, too. At the office, another lady and I ordered firewood for our campsite, and it was there before we pulled up to our sites. Our group played in the pool and at both playgrounds. The pool was warm and had a three-foot section for younger children. I don't think it went any deeper than six feet. No lifeguard was on duty, so we swam with the adults stationed around the pool. The playgrounds were great! One playground sat next to the pool. The children played on the jungle gym, metal slide, monkey bars, and two plastic slides. On the other side of the pool were yard games. We played for a moment before returning to our sites. The other playground had a small tire swing and two other sets of swings. It also had a wavy, plastic slide. We didn't use the basketball court, but one was located next to that playground. Other than the expected noise from the friendly forest animals, we didn't hear noises. A cat visited our site, and we saw a raccoon eating cat food beside the office. Maybe he's the camp mascot! Checking out was simple. Everyone wished us well and did their best to make sure our group had a...

This was the first time my husband and I took our young children tent camping. It’s something they’ve been begging us to do for a while. We felt Raccoon Mountain was the best place for us to introduce them to that world! The weekend we were visiting was already booked up several weeks out and one of the last remaining tent spots still available was right beside the pool and playground area, tent site #91. This proved to be the perfect location considering our situation! Our kids enjoyed the independence of feeling like they could run back and forth to play with friends on the playground at their leisure while my husband and I could relax and enjoy our conversations by the fire but still have eyes on them. The weather was still warm enough (first weekend in October) so lots of kids were still utilizing the pool albeit it was a chilly dip. Our location (tent site #91) made it nice to be able to easily pop back and forth from campsite to pool. Also, it was great having the bathhouse in such close proximity since little ones have to go all the time with very little notice. I thought the ladies side of the bathhouse was kept very clean and in working order. The tent location we had was definitely not primitive camping whatsoever considering our site had three electrical outlets and a water spicket and we were surrounded by other tents and rvs everywhere you looked. However, it was EXACTLY what our family needed to help our kids dip their toes into camping outside. They do have more secluded types of tent sites if that’s what you’re looking for though. We interacted with lots of staff and every single one of them were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating! My kids have not stopped talking about their top favorite things about their camping trip 1) swimming in the pool 2) s’mores by the campfire 3) all the friends they made on the playground 4) sleeping all night in a tent together! Thank you so much for these priceless memories...

Took my family to the Caverns on the Crystal Palace tour. This was a great find. The walk through the cave was not strenuous nor was there a lot of bending / stooping down even though I am 6ft. Had to duck at a few spots. The inside of the cave was beautiful and the tour was laid out so that you had a great view of all its sights. The Cave itself was discovered by Leo Lambert who also discovered and opened Ruby Falls if that helps understand the layout of the tour. The best part about this place was that our group was small so it felt more personable than at Ruby Falls where they try to cram as many people through as possible. We got to see everything while our guide explained it. Our guide Michael was great. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. Willing to answer questions from me and my kids, and if he didn't know he wasn't afraid to say he didn't know. Very friendly guy. Also had a rockin' coif of hair on him. Michael you were great! The only thing about this place I would change and also be hesitant to change is advertising. I have been to Chattanooga a few times and have never heard of this place. I just happened across it while planning our family vacation and took a gamble on it. Well worth it in my opinion. On the other hand I don't think this place would do as good with larger groups if they did advertise. The small groups are the way to go. If you are looking for something to do in Chattanooga deffinatly give this place a go.

Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground was our 198th stop and we stayed for 7 nights. Reservations were made on a decent online platform and about 2 weeks out your card on file is used to pay the balance. With this receipt, you will receive additional information as well as rules/policy (and will sign that you have received/reviewed them on arrival). Check in was quick and the person at the desk was very personable. On that, every person we met here starting with the manager, were super nice. We were escorted to the site, there is trash pick up provided and all sites are pull through. The site we had faced the mountains with a nice view but limited shade until late afternoon. The park is a little older so there are some other sections with mature shade trees around the office area. The site sloped down quite a bit at the front so had to block and leveling took a minute. Gravel pad with a cement patio, picnic table, fire pit and charcoal grill. Nice sized dog park as well and the sites and surrounding grounds are well-maintained. Did not utilize the bathroom facilities and did not do a cave tour. All in all, I would rate this park a 4.4 out of 5. Connectivity (2 pm): Park WiFi 19.0 down/9.53 up; Verizon 830 down/40.7 up; T-Mobile; 47 digital cable tv channels. But the park WiFi is pretty variable for basic internet use across the day.
