We reserved the pavilion on a Sunday afternoon to finally have birthday parties after covid stopped them... we had 5 kids parties all in one, and we had a blast! We did have a few issues, but we made everything work. We loved the new picnic tables and restrooms being available! That sweetened the deal having a restroom available for all our party guests! 😆
The issues: The power was already on when we got there. The clap to close it was broken and on the ground. The plugs worked, but blew when the bounce house rental company plugged in two on one plug. We had one working plug in the whole pavilion. This had extension cords running everywhere with kids running around. No one from the county actually works on the weekend, so no one can come address any problems. If you reserve on the weekend you are on your own. (We were told to call PPD dispatch and they would contact them. Well the county runs Dogwood Trails so it would be the sheriff's dispatch. And all they can do is call to inform the commissioner. Both dispatches told us someone was coming out, but in the in no one did because no one works on the weekend.) We did have a major problem with the employee that locks the restrooms, but this situation is being dealt with. After speaking with the annex Monday morning I am completely satisfied that situation will not be happening to anyone else anytime soon. We didn't agree with "take your trash with you." Living in city limits waste management picks up once a week, and you only have so much room in the trash bins. Personally, we have two of them, but we have a large family and fill both bins each week. The only other option would be to pay to take it to the dump ourselves after we paid to use the pavilion. We did take it with us, but we see that could be a serious issue for some. There's always room for improvement, and that is the only reason we stated the issues. If you don't tell them,...
Read moreHuge and beautiful park for lots of relaxation! Lots of picnic tables for eating and picture worthy views. Only downside to the park is that the trails are not easily marked and can be quite tricky to find if you’ve never been. Once found they are nice. We also did not find many maps of the park which again makes it a little difficult to figure out where you are at and where the trails are. But overall a really lovely park with lots of land to walk!!
Side note- We didn’t see very many Dogwood trees, as we were expecting tons! Hence the name. But we might have been a bit too early in...
Read moreIt's a neat park with great hiking trails. It surprised us to find it here. There are no public restrooms (currently they are trying to fund them from the signage by the pavillion), the maps are a little confusing and not widely disseminated. The roads on the maps are marked as one ways, but no one follows the directions, and the paved roads are winding and if you do come head on with someone, it's very hard to get around them.
Overall, it was a great hike, beautiful scenery, and it has great potential. Just needs a little signage and restrooms and it will...
