This place was so different than any other Refuge I have been to in the Texas Hill Country, of course. The lake is huge! Lots of people fishing. Beautiful flowers, and the swamps and marshland are everywhere you look. Very clean, whih was good as signs were posted to keep it that way, but still lots of fishing line and cord, and beer caps all over. I picked up what I could.

Not much wildlife to see when I went, but a beautiful day trip for me as I am a wildlife rehabilitator and love nature. I just moved to Port Arthur and was asking about volunteering somewhere on the Refuge or with Parks and Wildlife but was told they are still not taking volunteers because of COVID. This is so stupid. The crisis is over and the Governor of Texas opened everything back up and removed all the mandates, so why I was told this was rediclous. Hoping that will change soon. Great place if you like nature and marshlands. Note: NO TREES OR SHADE AT ALL!!! No place to put umbrellas in the ground either. Just road, piers or water. Beware of all the fire ant mounds too. DO NOT walk around in the bit of...

Mother Nature is beautiful. Spent quality time with my love and my family without interruption or any other distractions. Nice. I love you. God I love you. I very thankful for this day. It was perfect. Even the gulls, sand Piper's, Ravens, blackbirds, Finch, spirits, Triton, daken, Bowie, ghost, grim, Diana, ocean, winds, son, rah, holy, dragon fly, had accident- mosquito hawk down, air1, marine2, Houston marine, coastal marine, gulf coast special undercover unit, Marsh, Texas dps, police, highway patrol, trees, h20, fierie, mole, lore, monster, beast, Conway, Gulf didn't stand between me and my little one, the waves listened to me as I had asked, the litter was bare, the shore so beautiful, perfect, canvas, note taking, good, works, no bad smells or sick there, sand was clean, just a few minor HUMAN things that mother nature and her crew could or can not remove, thank you natural good, PEOPLE...

There are honestly not enough words to emphasize how special this place is for me. I've been coming here since I was a kid with my family. And now I am carrying on the memories with my own children and loved ones. This is not just a place to come and go fishing or crabbing (or even try to hook the gators lol)... but it is also a place where family and friends can get away from technology, stress, and any other tangible things. A place where you can share moments of excitement, togetherness, love, and learn a LOT of patience. It even gives us a sense of balance and keeps us grounded whenever we come. I love packing up lunches and snacks the night before, mentally preparing myself for lots of fun and excitement ... If you have not yet been here, then you are definitely...

Helpful and friendly staff. Great experience with hunting the WMA, was able to take my 2 boys and get them into a walk in area pretty easily. Suggest calling ahead to reserve if possible but if you can’t get the way early and they allow walk ins on a first come basis unlike Anahuac who I learned the hard way will turn you away even though they have open ponds available. McFaddin holds a lot of birds and manages the property well!

First time here, really awesome place, great for kids, fishing and enjoying some sun! We found it te be almost clean but there is always that guest that doesn't know how to pick up after themselves, it wasn't overcrowded, we had like 80 feet clearing on each side and that's what ot looked like down the whole beach, we will be returning!!
