We stayed here for several nights while making our way across Texas. We timed our arrival so we got there only 10 minutes prior to the reportedly strict 3pm check-in time, and lined up behind two other RVs. But the gate staff did start letting us in just a few minutes after we arrived.

Just past the entrance gate, you either turn right to get to the western set of loops (loops 3 through 6) or left to get to the two eastern loops (loops 1 and 2 ). We stayed in site 39 in loop 2, an end site on the inner side of that loop. All of the sites in loop 2 are driver-side back-in sites, with asphalt pads, charcoal-ready BBQ grills, fire pits, and covered picnic tables. Our site was level and more than long enough for both our 21-foot truck and 37-foot fifth wheel, but each site pad is wider at the front to allow vehicle parking next to the pad. If you need more parking than that, there’s a small parking lot on the west end of the loop. The water and electric hookups are near the back of the site. The sites on our side of the loop were spaced out a bit more than those on the lake side of the loop, but all of them are still what I would consider spacious. The outer edge of the loop road is lined with wooden pylons, so if you don’t want to deal with those while backing in, pick a site on the inner loop. Most of the sites on this loop are unshaded: loop 1 has more trees.

The campground is very quiet (no road noise) and is quite dark at night, with the only lighting provided by the nearby boat dock and the bathhouse. The bathhouse is clean and stylish, with the shower and bathroom stalls walled with thick stained barn wood, but the interior lighting is a bit dim: your eyes might need a moment to adjust if you’re coming in from a bright sunny day. There were three dumpsters on one corner of the loop. Loops 1 and 2 share a dump station located near the entrance to loop 1. I occasionally spotted deer during the overnight and pre-dawn hours, but they stayed away during the day. While there is no enclosed dog park, there was plenty of places to walk our dog.

In terms of cell service, the best speed I got on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna was 6 Mbps down and 11 up, so I was able to work remotely and we were able to stream video with occasional buffering. The one speed test I ran on my 5G AT&T smartphone showed 31Mbps down and 3 up. As you might expect, there is no campground WiFi.

We enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay here again if we were...

We stayed here last month and the older lady at the gate was super sweet and very friendly. The lake is beautiful and we had a great site although much of the park was closed off due to being off season. We had reservations again for this past weekend and encountered the same super rude, red headed "gatekeeper" with something to prove that other reviews have mentioned. She and the guy (that ironically looks like Santa Claus) do not embody anything about the kind of spirit camping elicits. We arrived at 1230 on a Sunday unknowing that we wouldn't be able to check in until 3 - which the lady rudely told us you should know because it's on the bottom of your reservation and you can go park somewhere else and wait. Sure, shame on us for not checking the check in time and calling - we get it, but it wasn't even that someone was in our site and after being an avid camper for 5 years we have never run into this on a Sunday in off season. At the very least she could have let us into the park and allowed us to wait there! It didn't stop there though, we didn't argue with her despite her obvious power trip, we used the pull around as she said we had to do and then pulled off to the side with the car running for no more than 5 minutes discussing our options. The whole reason we did get there early is due to my Alma mater playing their NCAA tournament game at 2:30. So there we were trying to figure out our options and up comes the anti-Santa. He comes strolling up and asks - can I help you. My husband says we are just trying to figure out what we are doing since we can't get into the park. He says well you can't park here. We are completely pulled off the road not blocking anyone and our car is still running while we figure out what to do! My husband said we are not parked and he proceeded to argue and say we are parked and had to move. OMG! We cancelled our reservation and moved on. What a couple jerks 😡. I can't believe people have been complaining about these ugly humans for over a year and they continue to get away with their nastiness. No park is worth nasty human spirit those two embrace. I get having rules and am understanding about why there are rules but there is a difference with people that are obviously so insecure they have to bully others to feel good. Unacceptable. My husband and I work hard for a living and have stressful jobs hence the reason we go camping; 99% of the time we encounter the same like minded people, these two however are...

Let me start this by saying that the park is beautiful but the reason we will not be returning and we will pay to go elsewhere is a particular employee. She is an older lady with chin length gray hair who was so unbelievably rude to us!!! We had already been staying at the park for a day and had our car tagged. We had left for the day and when we came back, the gate was open. We stopped at the stop sign and looked inside and no one was there and we went through the gate and next thing we hear a woman screaming at us and when we backed up and started rolling down the window, she literally yelled for my husband to put on a mask, which he did with no problem and then she yelled this is a federal park and you can’t just come in and my husband nicely said “yes ma’am we have a reservation” and he pointed at our car tag and she rudely goes well I didn’t see it and there is a stop sign for a reason and my husband says well the gate was up and I did stop at the stop sign and we looked in and no one was there and she rudely goes “well the gate is broken and I was washing my hands” and then storms off. Not once was my husband rude to this lady. If your gate is broke and you want people to do more than just stop at your stop sign and you want them to wait to be waved in, then put a sign. There are a ton of other handwritten signs at the gate house. There was no reason for us to be treated that way. I’m so very disappointed...

We lived at Potters Creek Park in a Motorhome for 10 nights in Dec of 2021! :) •Pros: We loved our stay! We only had one neighbor, so the other side of our site (25) was pretty spacious. We had a spot close to the lake, so there weren't as many trees around as the ones closer to the back but we loved how wide open this made our area -- the sunsets were magical. •Cons: Strict 3 pm check-in time, even if your spot is available. This caused a line at check-in and at the dump station. Efficiency loss! Also, the ladies' restroom was super dirty the 2 times I checked. :/ •Highlights: The pavement was smooth - easy to drive, and manage. We also loved watching the deer that roamed all around. There were many that were right behind our campsite! •Furbabies Review: Cookies (our dog) and Cream (our cat) loved the spacious site. It was large enough for them to roam around a bit. •Tips: If you are near the tall grass, beware of snakes! I caught view of one rustling right behind our site. •Our recommendations: Please introduce recycling to your facility, the Earth will thank you! (if you stay here, please recommend to host also!) Thank y'all for having us! We're off Livin' the Dream with Cookies & Cream. :)
