The gate was closed and I didn't want to be a gate jumper and be fussed at, so I had to settle for photos from the driveway. This was on a Tuesday afternoon and may have been closed due to incoming rain. There is NO sign on the gate or much information available online, so I guess you have to call them beforehand. Kinda a bummer when you get there at 3:00 in the afternoon and they're closed with no signage telling the hours or days open. They need to join the digital age and at least post their hours/days online, instead of having to call their phone number. I've noticed, in several photos, that there was no gate or fence blocking visitors, possibly due to stupid vandals and the after-hours interlopers. The wood fence looks fairly new,...

Hands down a 5 star hidden gem in the history resources of TX. We were driving by on the way home from a family vacation and stopped by to see the statue. When we went inside the information building we were pleasantly surprised to meet the park ranger on duty. He shared endless information about not only Stephen Austin but also the state and local history. He took time to give the kids quizzes and even let them touch some of his artifacts and handmade wooden toys inspired from the Frontier days. Thank you for an afternoon to remember. I misplaced his name but he was working on August 4th 2016 around noon. He had a contagious passion about history and made it fun & engaging for the...

Of COURSE Texas will never get rid of a slave master history who thinks slavery should continue to exist!!! It’s almost 2025 and no one is asking you to delete WHITE PRIDE(white supremacy) simply but to acknowledge that African Americans Are Equally… contributing to the wealth and demand in the American history!!! But no that’s just saying yall would have to treat us better so keep the statue up to show no matter what in Texas BLACK OR BROWN would never be accepted as equal!!!!! He made sure slavery...

A good quick stop to learn some Texas history. Wife and I only spent about 15 minutes there and didn't check out the visitor center. It was a good time though. The grounds were peaceful and the statue is pretty good sized! There was a cute bird nesting I the gravel very close to where people drive/walk...hopefully her chicks survive! There were 3-4 little eggs until her tail and she fluffed up a bit when I absentmindedly wandered to close. Anyway, fun monument to visit!

Great place to visit with kids. You can learn the history of Stephen F. Austin the Father of Texas. They have many historical items to view, a huge statue of the man himself out front and a small version inside to take lots of pics n selfies with. Out in back its very Green lots of Grass and trees for you all to relax. Hope to make a stop and visit cause it's well worth it!😊🤘🇺🇸

The staff here are kind, courteous, and very knowledgeable regarding many facets of early Texas history. The statue is fantastic as is the visitor center. They have some wonderful items for sale in the gift shop, including various Texas flags, but their book selections are a must have!
