One of the most educational and fun museums we have been through in Texas. Staff immediately greeted us upon walking in, explained a bit about the museum and visitor info. Several rooms held artifacts and tons of information on Natives as wells as the settlers that followed. Interactive spaces for kids, and a visual smorgasbord for anyone interested in the history of Montague County. Outside the museum there were several antiqued pieces of farming equipment as well as an old settlers cabin a person could explore. Everything inside the museum has been cared for, and the immaculate display of artifacts were obviously well taken care of. This is a must see stop for visitors inside and outside of Montage County.

I almost didn't stop at this museum. I'd seen it on Google Maps. But, I had an itinerary and wanted to make sure I got every stop I wanted. But, having driven up there to see where Red River Station (Chisholm Trail crossing) was and Spanish Fort (site of old native American community and town for the cowboys on the Chisholm Trail, I figured I should at least check it out. Wow! Wonderful people who know their history. This is a very well designed little museum that has an excellent collection of artifacts and is educational and engaging. I would definitely go back.

Great local museum. Ticket is $10 per person and parking seems to be somewhat limited. Learned a great deal about Nocona boots 👢 and a few local folks. The person at the counter was also providing the tour and was very knowledgeable and had great personal stories to share. Recommend!

This is museum is definitely a gem in this town. I was really a shock to see such a beautiful building in this small town, so I had to visit. Just like the beautiful outside, it is very beautiful inside. The moment you enter the museum you can tell how much pride they have in their county, which is very pleasing to see. The exhibits are filled with artifacts and very interesting history about the county, so much so that you cannot stop reading them. The exhibits cover various topics such as the Native Americans, Chisholm Trail, cowboys, and other random interesting facts about towns in Montague County! If you ever happen to be driving through the town and see a pickup truck park in the grass with a sign saying "museum", stop there and you won't be...

My wife and I recently vacationed in Nacona Texas. If you are familiar with old west this is the place to go! The Tales N' Trails Museum is the best small town museum we have been in. The entry fee was very reasonable and money well spent. Nacona is the Western Town modeled in the old west movies and shows, and the museum says it all. Local history is well explained and documented. A very lot of work and time went into the displaying of the antiques and treasures. Between the locally hand made base ball gloves and boots, not to forget the food, Nacona Texas is time well spent, especially if you need to wind down. Don't forget the Red River Valley and Chisolm Cattle Trail. A must see town and local...
