I'm reviewing specifically about my experience at the Nelsonville Music Festival, but in general this seems like a really nice place to have festivals and concerts. It feels secluded in the country but is also close to town.
I had a swell time at the NMF. The musical acts of PJ Blenderman and Waxacoochie were personal highlights, but I also found enjoyment in hearing some bands that were new to me.
I appreciate a lot of how the festival was run. The vendors were good and set up along a trail that led between stages. There was a focus on recycling and composting which is very welcome for this type of event which generates a lot of waste.
The stages were pretty good in terms of layout and sound quality. There is ample space up front, and then there is space in the back for chairs and blankets. There is also a place alongside the main stage for old people with too much money to sit. I kind of wish the hill was closer and available for all stages to have stadium type seating, but what they had was pretty good. The creekside stage is in a wooded area and you are amongst the trees and can even set up a hammock.
Everything is walkable with some trails, but I'd like to see better more established trails which cut down on the mud. This place has been around, I'm sure they know where the muddy parts are. Fix them. Get some kids at Hocking College to help for course credit.
Getting in was a bit of a nightmare with traffic and getting people registered, but maybe that was an anomaly. But seriously, make the road two lanes and have places where people can pull off to get registered, and maybe just handle registration at the main gate anyway to speed things up.
Oh, don't let me forget about the sanitation. While many of the workers were volunteers of questionable skill and purpose, they had a whole crew of professional sanitation people on site, many port a potties, hsnd washing statiins, and a fleet "honey dipper" trucks at the ready. These guys came to play. Here I am gushing about...
