Went for the corn maze in 2021. The maze took about an hour and only used the map a couple times. They had a second easier maze available for smaller children. Bigger map was $15/person and the smaller was $10/person. BEWARE the ticketing system wants you to print the tickets and when I asked the lady running the place about it, she only wants them printed so she can count them easier. The tickets aren't scanned or anything. I used my phone to show the tickets since I don't have a printer and the lady just counted how many tickets I had and that was it. Frustrating to go through a completely online experience and be given a QR code just to be given a message ON THE ORDER COMPLETION STEP that you need them PRINTED. So dumb. Anyways, parking is just a big field and if there's not already cars parked, well good luck, just park wherever I guess. Nothing is marked. The lady running the show appeared to be the only person there and she was managing checking people in and having a band show up and perform. I imagine it gets fairly hectic for her. Other than the maze, there's not much to see. The place that supposedly sells ice cream wasn't open. And it didn't look like you could get it by the scoop, only by the half gallon, which is disappointing. There's weird lawn ornaments all over, most painted purple (almost certainly the lady's favorite color), but it was all overgrown and not well kept. It really gave the place a rundown feeling. Honestly I feel like $15/person is way too much for this experience. Maybe $5-10 would be better. Supposedly they offer a night time thing with flashlights. We might check that out. Also they have a big ole trebuchet for pumpkin throwing that I will definitely be looking into, supposedly...
Read moreA 'qualified' 4 review.... Been there twice recently.
1st visit was a hit. If I had a 'nit', the price of the ice cream is a bit high... not over the top, but enough to make you think about it. That said, it is a significant property to maintain there... and I chock this up to I am supporting keeping open spaces 'open' and not full of 1/2 acre house lots : ) So.. sort of an 'ice cream and a small donation' to support open spaces' is how I reconcile it in my mind.
2nd visit about 5 days later was quite diff. It was a busy day there, so I will cut them some slack. As some have written... the woman owner was more than a bit 'ornery' by this time of the day... border line rude to both staff and customers (some other reviews have mentioned the same). Suggestion... when feeling that ornery, maybe take a mental break for 20 min... get a new face on : ) Also on this 2nd visit, the size of the ice cream (price already mentioned) was pathetic small. About 40% less than I got 5 days earlier. I will go back, but one more time with a serving of this size and I will not go back.
Overall... very nice venue... great flavor selection... great quality of ice cream,. I would not recommend going there when they are busy.... If you get burnt on the portion size.. say something.. I will next time. It is feedback they...
Read moreI'm a huge connoisseur of corn mazes and I wanted to add the Fort Hill Farms corn maze to my list of completed corn related challenges. This year in 2024 they have the entire maze designed to relate to the Thompson Speedway, another famous destination in the same town of Thompson, CT. Within the maze, they have hidden informational kiosks where you can take your data sheet given at the beginning and fill in some of the questions that are relevant to the speedway's history. You can also go hunting for secret picture kiosks and copy them to your data sheet with a pencil shadowing technique.
One cool thing about the maze in 2024 was that each of the major sections of the maze are roped off with different colors of plastic ribbon along the corridors of the walkway of the corn path, so they are helpful to tell you what general section you are in at any moment. I thought this was a wonderful touch to the corn maze experience.
The owner of the maze is super friendly and very energetic. She's always in a good mood and happy to see you, which is very refreshing.
Overall you will enjoy your time at Fort Hill Farms in Thompson, CT. The corn maze is what I specifically came for in...
