This is a very unique, one of a kind slide that is lovingly cared for by the Mount Tabor Church. The slide is a throwback to the good old of yesteryear! Similar slides were once popular in amusement park fun houses across the United States over 60 years ago due to rising insurance costs. This slide should be a historical landmark. This may very well be the only slide of this type in the United States!
We visited on Friday 4/10/2025. The gate was locked but a sign said we can park and walk in. Since it was damp it took a few slides down to get the dampness off and pick up some speed. We also sprinkled some saw dust from the bottom of the slide to help. Being an average sized adult 6' 180 lbs I had enough weight to make it to the bottom but not off the slide.
The Mt. Tabor Church Park Facebook Page has more info on if the slide is closed and if there are any events at the park.
There are several surveillance cameras in use around the park.
Thank you for this unique experience. I hope to get back where there is a public event. I would love to hear the history...
Read moreLove taking my children to this slide that I enjoyed just as much when I was their age! Some of the original playground equipment remains on the property, and some new playground equipment has been added. There are 2 large pavilions that can be rented, and restroom facilities. There are a few picnic tables located near the slide, where parents can sit and still keep an eye on their children. During the summer months, multiple daycares and camps with small-large groups visit during the late morning - early afternoon hours. Although lots of fun, there have been multiple serious injuries on this slide and I urge parents to keep an eye on smaller children when others visiting are a bit daring on the slide! It is not uncommon to see visitors refuse to wait until the child or adult (stranger) going down the slide in front of them has made it to the end of the slide, before they are racing down behind them and landing on top of them in the sawdust pit. They may mean no harm, but many have gotten...
Read moreHonestly, pretty good park and the big slide is fun. (It has 3 Pokestops/Inns and 1 Gym/Fortress)
I had a weird interaction today (9-21-19) with a middle-aged white guy in a blue Toyota (or toyota-looking) car with a car seat in the back. He pulled up beside me while I was walking to the park and talked to me about how there was a guy creeping around the neighborhood and there was theft. Then he proceeded to take a PICTURE of me without my consent and told me that I had nothing to worry about if I wasn't up to no-good. I've been sick about this interaction all-day and haven't yet decided on if I'm going to the police to have it on record.
TL;DR: Had a bad feeling about an interaction with a stranger where he decided it was ok to just take my picture while I was walking down a public road. I have no idea what kind of creep he is, but I don't feel right not putting it out there to inform...
