my partner and i made the drive west to the coast on a number of occasions. on several of them, we passed through the tillamook state forest. our stay on the trask river was delightful. the water flows steadily and is clean. we did have the misfortune of leaving portions of our skin exposed while at our camp and were the recipients of dozens of attacks from the biting midges. i have a sensitivity to bug bites and this was more than unfortunate for me, as i was left itchy for upwards of a week after. my partner said their bites did not itch until days later. as luck would have it, this seemingly unfortunate result of our time in the forest served as a pleasant reminder of the time we had there. the crisp waters, the chirping birds, the sounds of Dodge Ram 3500s hauling OHVs to disturb the peace. the anthropocene unfolds...
Read moreTillamook State Forest is one of the most beatiful, fun, breathtaking forest I have ever had the privilege to travel and hike through. It has miles of hiking trails, abandoned railroads, waterfalls, rivers and lakes. The camp grounds are many and spectacular. Swimming holes are abundant and full of clear blue green water. Carved stone stairways lead up to carved out stone bath houses with waterfalls cascading down around them. Natural small islands in the rivers are connected by wood bridges to the highway so you can pull over, get out of your vehicle and explore. It's one of my most visited areas where I find new sights and hidden wonders every time I pass...
Read moreWe had an absolute blast at Tillamook State Forest over spring break! Riding quads on the trails and doing some rock crawling made for an unforgettable adventure. The terrain is super fun and diverse, with a mix of challenge and scenic beauty. Some of the trails aren’t well-marked, which made navigation a little tricky at times, but thankfully there were maps posted in certain areas that really helped us find our way. The place is huge, so it’s easy to get turned around if you’re not familiar with the layout—definitely recommend bringing a GPS or downloading a map beforehand. All in all, a great spot for off-roading and exploring...
