This area of the canal and trail are among the most beautiful. Numerous turtles dot the rocks in the canal and Great Blue Herons are a common sight. Great egrets can sometimes be glimpsed here as well as the small green heron.
This part of the canal path is more lightly travelled than nearer New Hope, making it more peaceful on weekends. Cyclists and pedestrians usually share the path well though large groups of either can be annoying when they hog the path. But overall, the path is a great place to get away for quiet contemplation of the beauty of the area.
The large restroom is open year-round (great for cyclists!) though they could do a better job of keeping it clean. OTOH, given that most parks have port-o-pots, this is a heck of a lot better than that!
From here, head north about a mile and a half for a nice walk up the canal to Homestead Coffee Roasters and general store where you can get a great snack or meal while you watch groups of ducks feeding in the canal by the store. Head south about the same distance and you'll come to the Uhlerstown covered bridge. And if you're up for a challenge, bike up Uhlerstown hill - the steepest road in the area!
Keep heading south and you'll come to Tinicum Park (a few miles downriver). Here's you'll find ample parking, large fields and a Frisbee golf setup that...
Read moreBeautiful location, with very long stretch of hiking going both ways; lots of good looking homes to see as you walk; great scenic views of the river and the way to the parking via driving. On Nice mellow days, its one of the most gorgeous serene walks you can ever have...nice cool breeze and it helps that its near the water; but on hot days...wow, not much shade depending on the direction but either way you will get a good workout. The only downside(s) and why im giving this 3 stars; is that there's very VERY little (if not any) cell reception (T-mobile especially) so if you try to get back home via GPS good luck cause its a pain. Very little bathrooms far between so good luck with that also. Overall despite of the small negatives its still worth the visit just be aware of the cell phone coverage is...

There are many homes with backyards that are right up against the canal. The homeowners and park visitors take great care to keep their yards and park clean. People are friendly and respectful. The park is very historic along with a fascinating history. There is a beautiful historic covered bridge and plaques along the way explaining the history of the park. There is also a a bathroom along the bike path for those needing a break. There are great and plenty of photo opportunities. A great place to spend a...
