I've never explored the area behind the parking (now $4) before, but there is an impressive collection of picnic spots with shelters, grills, and uncovered picnic tables along Panther Creek. Before crossing the bridge, there is a nice path for about 1/3 mile of "hiking" and saw a few guys fishing. Area was fairly clean. All are easily accessible to include small children. The creek is slow and low in that area so smaller children can play as well. Nice hiking trail on both sides...
