Gorgeous park with amazing views and nature. The short trail up to the hanging rock is in decent shape. Be prepared for a hard climb amd some narrow trails along cliffs. This trail is.not.for beginners. I found trekking poles helpful. The bathrooms are tucked away and were basic but clean. Other trails were blazed but confusing in places. I navigated using AllTrails pro, which worked well. Rhododendron trail is a mess with many downed trees and old washouts. Ledges trail was okay with a great overlook near the top. Picnic areas have no trash cans and many of the tables were in bad shape. There are grill pits available to use but we packed a cold picnic so did not use them. Crowded at Hanging rock but other trails were not busy.
Be aware there is no cell service and satellite reception is very sketchy. Cary a papper map and...
Read moreHow about a park that features several oddities. The most sought out is the precipitously balanced giant rock. There's also an old ice mine and the colorful erosion of Copperas Rock.. And that's not all. You can hike the 11 trails, stop at one of the five picnic spots, or fish the Great Trough Creek. How about taking your horse on the horseback trail? You can also bicycle Old Forge Road or mountain bike the Horse Knob Fire Trail. In winter you can cross country ski and snowmobile. In season you might want to hunt here. With so much going on, plan to camp at the 29 site campground or rent the Trough Creek Lodge. Visiting this park should be a must for anyone vacationing around the Raystown Lake. The park is beautiful and well maintained. For events at this park visit: events dcnr pa For more information: pa parks and...
Read moreBeautiful small state park. Compared to other state parks, this is probably the smallest I've been to, but don't let that stop you from visiting. One main road through the park which makes it easy to navigate and there are plenty of places to go there for a picnic. Went during the end of fall so snow on the ground already which made it nice for a good cold weather scenery. The hikes to the made spots were short and easy. Nothing too tough. You do have to climb some steps so not handicap accessible though.
The campground was accommodating minus the water that was shut off for the cold weather. It was nice that chopped wood was available right at the camp site.
Overall a great state park to visit...
