Awesome little hidden trail off rt 31 in Lyons. Drive by here everyday. I stop in every now and then and hike. Its approximately about a 1.5 mile trail up the side of a "steep" drumlin, a short trek on top and then decending around the south end creating a nice loop. A small red pine woodland with a high canopy greets you at the beginning. Blue Cut trail description: "The name Blue Cut dates back to 1853 when a cut was made through a drumlin while building the railroad. The Vernon Shale had a bluish cast when exposed.  Today this nature center and wildlife refuge covers over 40 acres of open land with marsh and pond, mixed hardwoods, and red pine plantation."

Blue Cut is great! Nice, short loop - usually takes about 30 minutes. There are pavilions farther back that could be nice for a secluded party. The county has a firing range on North-East side, just over the ridge - it's well used especially around 8 or 9 in the morning. I'd recommend avoiding if you or your pups are boom-triggered. There's also a marsh on the South-West side that can get kinda buggy around the trails. Don't miss the super cute fairy trail that the local girl scouts put together! UPDATE: The fairy trail is looking pretty bedraggled and is need of some upkeep. I can't seem to contact the group, but if you can, please pass this along!

This is a beautiful nature area of sprawling blue spruce trees, walking trails and picnic areas for families to enjoy. There's also several geocaches in the area.
