Another beautiful spring ephemerals hike in Wood county. The trails were rustic and you need to pay attention to your footing and be on the lookout for trail markers, but it was natural and beautiful which is just how l hoped to find it. Love the bluffs and boulders. I'm not sure how brushy the trails might become in summer but there were so many flowers. First trilliums were just opening. Lots of Dutchman's breeches and yellow trout lilies and more. The may apples and blood root are also about to bloom as well. Got a nice barred owl serenade. The Potowatami nature trail could use some funding for maintenance of the trail markers, but the booklet...
Read moreThe trails here are a bit overgrown, but not horrible. There are a couple of really nice views from the tubing hills that seem to go on forever. There is a large warming house with many picnic tables and a couple of working bubblers. The bathrooms have no running water, but are clean and have electricity. There are several informational signs about the history of the area. A decent amount of parking and a small playground area. A nice place to spend a couple hours. I'm sure the tubing here in winter is a lot of fun too.

During warm weather... There's two trails available, totaling just over a couple miles. They are poorly marked and indistinguishable from service roads, winter access points and in many spots, the forest. Maps onsite differed in where the trails were, distances, etc. Informational signs about the history of the site were offensive from a modern perspective that celebrates diversity and politically correct language.
