Unique, multi habitat, sprawling state park minutes from the heart of East Aurora, originally owned by the Knox family of Buffalo. You can hike, cross country ski, bike (in designated areas) and ride horseback (with permit) throughout the park. Some have said the sunsets are magical here and after experiencing some I have to agree. Come for a visit and see for yourself.
I love to come hiking here with my dog and significant other. Within the space there are different kinds of habitats including woods, grasslands and ponds which make me feel like I was transported to a tale in a storybook. It’s fun and keeps things interesting to see a few quick scenery changes on a hike that is often less than 3 miles. The paths are clearly marked and there are easy to follow maps onsite. The main path is the outer loop with various trails that cut across so you can customize the length of your outing. This is great place for hikers who are just starting out because the terrain is not difficult and the way the trails are designed you will always be able to easily find your way back to the main parking lot. One of my favorite parts of the park is the library hidden in the woods. This consists of some benches in the shade and a book closet where visitors can borrow something to read or leave a book to share.
It’s also fun to people watch here. Grab a coffee before you come and watch people in the multi use space. There is an expansive dog park broken down into two sections for large and small dogs. Facilities on location for weddings, conventions, and special events which include seasonal craft shows, and annual events including Bark Bash and Borderlands Art and Music Festival. You can also check out the historic barns which are currently being restored. The barns are home to some farm animals who reside on the property.
There is an organization set up, Friends of Knox Farm, which allows the community to get involved and donate funds or their time to help maintain the park. It’s cool to see members of the community taking pride in caring for such a...
Read moreBeautiful scenery wherever you look! The Manor is so majestic yet Stunningly Beautiful due to the caretakers keeping its old character and charm. One thing I would is add is update the Manor with central A/C and Heating due to the fact that the Manor and surrounding grounds are used primarily for weddings and other celebratory activities. As well as it would help preserve the furniture and wallpapers in all the rooms, which in and of itself would pay for itself over time in preservation value. Other than that, the charm and historical experience is delightful and should not be missed if an occasion arises to be invited to be a part of this magnificent piece of WNY. The surrounding hills are majestic and would be an ideal setting during the peak season of our Western New York fall colors that offers an amazing backdrop for a painter or photographer whoms eye could capture the trueness and beauty of the 633 acres that make up the Knox Farm🦋 Please don't mistake or misunderstand my meaning of the beauty of the fall colors. The Manor is exceptionally beautiful any time of the year although I am unsure of how the winter months are handled for planning any celebratory activities so those inquiries would need to be done by contacting the office to get that detailed information directly from them. Happy Trails to those of you who have wanderlust in your blood, if you ever have the opportunity to go, TAKE IT❣️❣️❣️❣️ THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS AND HUMBLE OPINION. Read moreHoly, what a beautiful detour. Free state park, which is always a bonus. However, freedom always comes with a price! I parked by the barns and proceeded to take a short walk on the library trail after looking at the map. With that said, there was minimal signage. A 5-minute walk turned into an hour long journey due to absolutely zero signage beyond the library woods and "horses have the right of way." And since I didn't bring my phone, there was no way to detect my location. I felt like I was back in the days pre ubiquitous mobile devices, which wasnt a bad thing, since it forced me to stay in the present! So, I traipsed through wood and field till I reached the homestead, looking lonely and abandoned from its glory years. In any case, if you do decide to take the journey, you will encounter birds galore, native and invasive plant species, and beautiful views of distant mountains across the fields. Rumor has it there is also a native nursery, which is part of the reason I stopped. I didn't find it. But there is a dog park for people with furry friends. The visitor center isn't visitor friendly and needs updating. But, there are clean bathrooms! Happy...
