Bjorklunden — Attraction in Town of Baileys Harbor

Mile trail along Lake Michigan, begins to the right behind the Lodge with big parking lots available, with one of WI's rare boreal forests because of a +/- 5 degree dip in temps from the cool winds. Discreetly open to the public. Here for a Door County Land Trust Hike Leaders (14 Nature Preserves in Door County) Training Session, including a great hike led by Jane Whitney to demonstrate "best practices" for hike leaders.

Approach to the Lodge is through a forest of stately birch trees. It's hard not to think you're on the Swedish border with Norway.

Björklunden Swedish: [ˈbjœ̂rkˌlɵndɛn]; in full: Björklunden Vid Sjön Swedish for 'the birch grove by the lake') is the northern campus of Lawrence University. The 425-acre (172 ha) estate is on Lake Michigan in Door County, Wisconsin, just south of Baileys Harbor. The landscape covers meadows, woods, and over a mile of Lake Michigan shoreline.

Came here 3 or 4 times as a Lawrence University student in the early 2000s. It's a lovely place with rooms that are dormitory-style but very comfortable, a huge common room, and grounds which include the lakefront and the forest. You can spend quality time with your classmates and profs or sneak off to relax as you wish. The food was very good every time I was there.

If you're a student they make you help set the table, wash up, serve food (in rotation) and clean your room when you leave which I think is a good way to keep the number of staff down and make some kids a bit more...

I've been to several retreats at Bjorklunden, one strategic planning session and 3 or 4 quilting retreats. The facility sits on a fabulous piece of property. Lovely, rustic paths, beautiful views of Lake Michigan, and within walking distance of Baileys Harbor. The building is well kept and highly functional, with some beautiful Scandinavian touches and a huge fireplace. The dorm rooms are spacious but not fancy. The food, in my experience, is...
