This place is ✨magical✨
Only a 20-minute drive from the Wisconsin Dells area this park is an absolute must, and a place I can't believe I haven't visited before. I highly recommend purchasing a WI State Park pass and visiting the other state parks in the area or coming back for a sunrise/sunset while on your trip.
I joined a Facebook group before visiting and was hoping for insight on the best trail(s) and time of day to visit but was shocked by the responses! People were saying to spend a minimum of 2-5 hrs, if not the whole day, at the park. We initially only intended to drive through the park, but the area is so breathtaking you have to get out and see it for yourself! With that, I highly recommend viewing a Google map of the area and doing some research on the trails before visiting. If you are going to go for any sort of elevation hike I highly recommend water and some snacks. Search and make meal plans too, that way you can refuel after a day at the lake!
Either way, you really can't go wrong with a visit to Devil's Lake State Park. It's like stepping into another world!...
Read moreMy fiance and our group of friends have been camping here annually and it's always a great time. It's a good mix of commercialized space (shops, restaurant) and natural scenery (lake, hiking, climbing). We've stayed in the lower Ice Age site and it's had what we needed (restrooms, showers, fresh water). Navigating the grounds can be a bit tricky since it's sizable and has lots of turns but the signage is accessible and most people should be able to find their way. I did one of my long runs here during marathon training and found it accommodating for it. We've taken our dogs paddleboarding on the lake and felt like we weren't running into anyone which was nice. We've also hiked both sides of the lake and found each to be great for sightseeing. The restaurant near the lake has much higher quality food than I anticipated and we've always been able to find adequate parking before unloading our stuff to go on the lake. Downtown Baraboo isn't far either and has fun things to explore for those interested as well. We'll definitely be continuing our annual trip and it's an easy 5...
Read moreOverview: Devils Lake is a wonderful place to go. There really wasn’t litter and it had clean bathrooms. I recommend it very much. I also recommend parking in the Northshore parking lot because the bathrooms were the only ones open there. Also that is the only place I found was open for admission. I recommend hiking the East Bluff trail first.
Devils Doorway is my favorite and Balanced Rock is a great hiking place to go for a challenge. Both are a must see. Devils Lake is so beautiful.
Only bring your dog there if he or she is physically fit and has experience because the trails are not like a sidewalk. Kids and adults both love this place. You need to be able to read maps (there will be maps at the end of trails and forked trails) because there are times where it’s hard to know where to go. You NEED to be careful because it is easy to fall.
Devils lake is not a full day hike but is well worth it. So if you are thinking about going, you should go. Cons: Bathrooms in Southshore parking was not open. Sometimes it was hard to tell where the trail was (balanced rock) and...
