VERY PET FRIENDLY!!! I travel with my 2 little dogs all the time, and I have been to pet friendly places. Not many are as dog friendly as The Windmill!! There is pretty much no limit for friendly dogs and responsible owners at The Windmill. Dogs are allowed to enter the buildings as well as shop outdoor.
The Windmill has a large variety of merchandise for sale - from art and crafts, local farm food, baked goods, wine, beer, furniture, baby things, etc... and food vendors. It's truly an one-stop shop. I visited in late October 2017, and some vendors made their own scarecrow, which was perfect for Halloween. There was a huge display of Halloween decorations for sale. It is very easy to spend the entire day here.
Parking is plenty. There is a huge plot of land for parked cars, and it's clean and mostly grassy. The restrooms are indoor with running water. The ladies restroom was very clean.
I bought some baked goods from the Amish bakery and some fresh roasted peanuts. I also tried some Kiwi Berries, which I have never heard of. They tasted like .... mini-kiwi. Unfortunately, I have an allergic reaction to kiwi which gives my tongue a burning sensation, and I got the same reaction to these kiwi berries after having a few. My friends enjoyed the rest for me.
If you are visiting The Windmill, also stop by The Spotted Duck Creamery for some delicious creamy ice-cream made with duck eggs from free range happy ducks. It is less than 10 miles North of The Windmill. I highly recommend both The Windmill and The Spotted...
Read moreLet me start by saying I go almost every Saturday from June thought August so I have a lot of experience at the windmill. You can buy local produce, cheese, flowers, baked goods, wines, maple syrup, all kinds of canned goods like jams, jelly's, honey ect. They also have all your carnival food like fried dough, kettle corn, cotton candy ect. They even have an Annie's Pretzels so that ought to tell you this place is legit!
A few of my favorites
First of the Amish place(forget the name) for breakfast has amazing food. I get a #1 for 6.50 you get 2 eggs, choice of meat (4-5 slices of bacon!) home fries, toast(their cinnamon raison is amazing), and a coffee. The portions are huge!
That Coffee Place is on the porch of building outside and they have all kinds of great coffee, latte's and fraps. They have so many flavors and the coffee is great!
Produce is amazing here I will say sometimes you can get deals and other stuff is just as expensive as in the store so just check the prices at different vendors to get good deals. Everything I have bought has been fresh and tasted great. My family buys peaches, pickles ect to can here.
The chicken bbq (NY style) butterflied potatoes, blooming onion, and taco salad is really good.
Tip It opens at 8am I normally get there by 9:30 -9:50 and I am ok but by 11:30ish it starts to get really crowded last Saturday they had 3 tour buses pull...
Read moreMy wife and I visit the Windmill Farm Market whenever we are in the area for over ten years now. We just visited the area in July (after they were allowed to open). The market has been always the hop of the region for all kinds of businesses and shoppers. It is more than a farmers market. It offers a wide variety of shops and businesses, and eateries. One would be truly surprised to see what this market offers. Allow for at least 1-2 hours of shopping, eating, enjoying the outdoors and the indoors settings. But what impressed us in our last visit is how people and businesses in that region are observing and making an effort to comply with the COVID 19 prevention protocols. Not all shops are opened, not as many people around (which is a positive thing I guess). A significant majority of people are wearing some sorts of face covering and trying to keep distancing, etc. This is relatively a remote community in a state (NY) which is hard hit by this pandemic. What is encouraging and uplifting is to see the collective high spirit and resilience of the people despite this devastating crisis. I feel it is our duty and pleasure to support one another at this tough time, and specially supporting our local businesses and farmers who are the true foundations of our communities...
