This out-and-back 1.5 mile (each way) hike is well worth the effort to see the beautiful waterfall at the end of the trail. The trail is at times full of rocks and roots, so be aware of your footing. There are a couple of picnic tables at the end of the trail, too, a little farther on (but no trash cans, so bring a trash bag to pack your stuff back out). This falls is approachable, and although it was cold today, I could totally see sitting in the pool of water in the red sand near the bottom of the falls or on a rock nearby. It was so different than other area falls because it's a narrow waterfall that shoots off to the side and lands in sand. The red rocks, sand and trees made for a beautiful and picturesque setting. Getting there is a bit confusing for a very short time just past the 1/2 mile point -- there's a bit of a jog just past a bench. But look at the sign just past the bench and you'll see which way it's facing, and that gives you a clue where a person would be coming from if they were reading it. Also, there are trees with 2 blue dots on them -- that'll keep you on the path at points where the leaves obscure it. Well...
Read moreOn a Sunday afternoon on Memorial Day weekend. Quite the busy trail. It clocked in at 2.5 total miles on my app, not 3.
Parking lot was full, cars parked alongside of the dirt road. Looks like there's room for just about anyone who wants to show up.
Beautiful falls indeed. The trail makes use of many single lane boardwalks making going slow at times waiting for others to clear sections before moving on. The trail slowly drops down to the falls making coming back out a chore for some. Plenty of roots along the way that'll make you wish you at least wore some decent tennis shoes. Well over 10 dogs on the trail, most behaved nicely, others dictated what their weak owners would do despite being on a leash.
Photos, without people in them, can be a challenge given how people line up to be photographed...
Read moreWow. This place is an amazing little gem. Google directions took us to a closed entrance, but a sign pointed us to the correct destination. When we first arrived, we noticed an old cemetery across the street, which was creepy, but interesting to explore. The trail down to falls is LONG and treacherous. Lots of rocks and roots, hills, and bridges. On the way back, we passed an elderly couple taking break, who asked how much further... I couldn't help but share that they hadn't even made it halfway and had a long road ahead. I'm pretty sure they turned back. While these falls aren't large, they are quite magical, and I will say - it's worth the...
