TRAIL UPDATE: 7/23/19 (Bob - Steward Assistant, MHLC) MHLC staff and volunteers made improvements to the white (east) trail adding some water bars, removing debris from bridges and creating a short alternate route when the main trail gets muddy. We also added a secondary step/bench to the overlook bench on the red trail to make it safer and more comfortable for all ages. Remember to play a tune on the musical bridge on the white (east) trail. Conditions are dry now and perfect for hiking, trail running and mountain biking. Check out the other preserves and upcoming events on the MHLC website. We are always seeking additional assistance from those who visit our preserves regularly. Hope to see you on the trails. Bob

Perhaps the best hike in the Helderhills. The Escapement trail offers views of sMallbany 17+/- miles away and the eastern end of the Helderberg range Bennett, Copeland and Blodgett looking easterly towards the Hudson and beyond. On a good day you can observe The Adirondacks to the north as well as Mount Greylock in the Berkshires.

Definitely off the beaten track (since the road in is gravel, not paved). But easily reachable and very peaceful. The trails are well marked and the west white and orange trails we did were easy to moderate.

Went to the Keleher preserve with some friends this past week. There had been a light dusting of snow in the morning so it was a beautiful scene coming off the trail head. I really enjoyed the ample space and clearly marked trails! There were some families walking their dogs and hiking as well. On the way out, we met the preserve steward (Hi Bob!), and shared a quick chat. =] We were all impressed with the way the preserve is taken care of. I think I speak for everyone in saying that we would definitely come back (in...

Very nice, well-maintained preserve. We didn't see any garbage while we were here. The trails are well-marked with trail markers and signs, and the trails themselves are in great condition. The trails here ramble through the woods, with a nice overlook on the far end of the loop. We stumbled upon this preserve only because the nearby Bennett Hill Preserve parking lot was full (also a nice hike). This was a lovely,...
