The Ice Age Trail is miles of hiking trails that wind through stunning landscapes of Wisconsin’s glacial past. The Table Bluff segment offers a 6-mile loop through natural wetlands, wooded ridges, and expansive farmlands. This hike is well known for its abundance of wildflowers and wild animals. Along the path, many native species of birds, beavers, and even deer can be seen. The trail is also known for it’s iconic glacial formations, including moraines and kettles, as well as outstanding views of the surrounding countryside. With easy access off a paved road, this trail is a popular spot for hikers of all levels.

This place is definitely underrated and somewhat unique compared to other bluff like areas in central Wisconsin! The side of the bluff is more of an Oak Savannah with 5-6 Large boulders just strew about as you climb the trail! They seem to just be bulging out randomly and have interesting shapes and sizes! The hike is on the easier side for a uphill trek. Most of the path before the top is fully exposed to sunlight so it usually is dryer than most trails in the area! Nice views from the top and trail continues to other north parking area through a wooded area!

It’s convenient to get to the southern end of the Table Bluff segment of the IAT from the west side of Madison. Pick it up on the south end just off of Hwy 14, or drive up KP to its northern end and start from there. Either direction is a pleasant hike with some white marker side trails to add variety. Just enough hills to keep it interesting without crazy climbs or drops.

This is a great segment of the Ice Age Trail. I was only able to walk about a mile of it, as I was a bit pressed for time, but I enjoyed what I saw. The trail itself is pretty clean and well marked however, the entrance is not. There is a small sign that is easy to miss and the parking lot is pulled back a bit behind some trees. There is a "Prairie Restoration" sign that is easier to see from the road so keep a look out for it. The gravel driveway for the parking lot is very close by. Lots of birds in this area and you can hear various bird calls which would be great for bird watchers. Beginning part of the trail has a small grove of trees which opens up to an open area of small rolling hills with minimal elevation changes. I did not see any trash receptacles and there were no bathrooms. I arrived early in the morning around 6:30am. I was the only person there and only heard one car drive by. It was very peaceful to walk the trails...
