Havens Petting Farm — Attraction in Town of Blue Mounds

We attended an event that hired Havens Petting Farm to bring animals for a small petting zoo. I was almost in tears over how the rabbits were being treated. We waited in line for our turn to go into the enclosure and I observed how the little kids and parents one by one went in, picked up a rabbit upside down, dropped them, grabbed them by two legs, etc. The man running this could not have cared less. These poor rabbits were consistently man handled as each person entered the pen. By the time I entered, the rabbits were shaking, and there was a long line left. I’ve been to petting zoos before but usually with small mammals they have “do not pick up” rules, which is what I expected here. To make matters worse, I asked the man more about the rabbits and he said at the end of each season they try to adopt the rabbits out, but inevitably many end up being surplus and have to be slaughtered or sent to Amish farms where they’re used for meat. By giving these people your money, you are funding surplus breeding and slaughter so your child can pet a cute bunny for 5 minutes. I didn’t ask about the baby chicks, but I assume...

Havens Petting Farm is hands down one of the most popular attractions every year at WaunaBoom, the Village of Waunakee’s July 4th celebration.

This year, the petting farm and pony rides were a huge hit with our record-setting crowd. I don’t think many people in Wisconsin have ever seen a Texas Longhorn bull up close, but Sammy could not have been sweeter or more gentle with our guests. Watching kids and families light up as they met the animals was truly special.

Logan, Sarah, and their entire team were fantastic—kind, patient, and professional from start to finish. You can tell they genuinely care about creating a memorable experience for everyone who visits.

I recently drove a group of residents from the Senior community in Verona where I’m the activities director and I can’t say enough good things about this petting farm! The staff was so friendly and helpful, especially with our residents with walkers, from the moment our bus arrived till our residents boarded the bus again. The farm itself was wonderful, with a big barn that provided shade and felt fairly cool on the scorchingly hot day we were there. The variety of animals was astounding, the babies were adorable, and being able to pet and hold them - or not - was really fun for our group. The ice cream cone filled with feed for each person to use was especially nice for those who weren’t comfortable touching animals - and made residents laugh when the feed and cones were gobbled down :).
