Like one other reviewer, I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. I live in Mount Horeb so this was the first county park I visited when I moved here. I was left feeling disappointed in it. (that was 7 years ago now) Since then, they've formed a Friends group, and I know they're working on creating an oak savanna, putting in native perennials, and putting in different desirable shrub species near the entrance (rather than poison ivy and buckthorn). However, I still go there and wonder why so many people think it's an amazing park. Yes, I like the lake, and this year the oaks were stunning with their fall color. But there are still a lot of invasive species and poison ivy, and for some reason I still leave the park thinking "that was alright". In addition, the maps need to be updated. The correct one is posted at the front of the park, and the only other time a map is seen in the park is about halfway into your hike- and it's an old map, so it doesn't make any sense. I hope the Friends group works on putting a few more correct maps at intersections, for those people like me who get lost easily, or...
Read more"Stuey" offers pretty great hiking trails, a place to paddle, swim, beach, rock jumping, fishing, bird/critter watching, a very, very interesting rock formation 👀. You will usually find all kinds of people doing all kinds of things, spanning all age groups. They have a Pavillion, bathrooms that are hit or miss, grilling area(s)..maybe even canoe rental? I've never seen anything inappropriate there. Once in a while there may be loud, potentially offensive music from the high-schoolers (not offensive to me, but my kids have heard most of the nasty words by now. Lol) Years ago, my mom-in-law's purse was snatched from an unlocked car, I don't think that's common, but do what you can to prevent crimes of opportunity no matter where you are. It's a great place. It's provided me both activities and solitude. Locals love it. It has turtles, who doesn't...

If you like fishing, there is a good amount of panfish and bass in the lake… Pike in northern as well.
There are several sites along the east side of the lake that are good for jumping off rocks, or swinging from rope swings into the cool water
Ample parking, easy access, a...
