Incredible hike!! 6.2miles round trip, part of the ADK fire tower challenge & saranac 6r challenge. Awesome parking right off a road that is accessible all year round. The trail starts with a "road" you walk on to the main trail, but it is short and well maintained with nice views of a stream. This hike is on rolling hills until the last mile or so, then it gets a bit steeper, not too bad though. Top of the tower is open year round & has a little index for which mountain is which. Great views of the lakes. A cool thing about this trail is all the massive boulders you pass, left here by glaciers in a previous ice age. Really makes you think about how big the glaciers were, seeing the size of these boulders. Great hike!! Don't be afraid to go after it in winter even if you drive a normal car!

Amazing views- even if you don't climb the tower! Nice bald face that steps down in bits for plenty of places to sit and rest. Up and down through woods for a few miles and then the steep, rocky, muddy, wet climb up! Rained night before so a bit slippery. Hiking boots are a must this year. Mud is plentiful and along the entire trail. Sprayed on some Deet/Deep Woods -few bugs bothered us. Plenty of parking on a Monday. Lot was full at 12:30p but spots along road open. Hike up gravel road to trailhead on right. ~7 miles from your car and back.

I really enjoyed this hike, but it broke my heart because I lost a diamond off of my engagement ring coming back down from the summit. It had rained the day before and there was a lot of mud. I slipped and grabbed on to a tree, and it caused my glove to get ripped off my hand. Later I realized my ring was missing the main diamond. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 So if you're on a hike, as your coming back down.... Please keep your eyes open on the left side. It's a marquise cut diamond. I would be happy to pay a finders fee. It's priceless to me, my husband designed for me, I am heart broken! If anyone finds it please bring it to the 2nd house on the left on Keese Mills Rd. (same road as St. REGIS) Thank you in advance and God bless...

BEWARE! The last ~1.5 mile stretch to get to the top of the peak was a SERIOUS INCLINE and very muddy. We were pretty unprepared in terms of having to scale such a steep length while scrambling our way down the same trail with our hands and feet. Wear layers as you will get very hot at times and a warmer layer is needed as it's freezing at the top of the observation tower at the peak. Bring hiking poles with you if you have them as they will greatly help on the way down and be prepared to spend roughly 4 hours on this hike at a moderate pace! Pack snacks to enjoy at the top of the peak and plenty of water to get you...
