My husband and I had the pleasure of visiting the Manor of St. George on a recent September 2022 afternoon. We were greeted by a lovely docent named Jean who has been giving these tours for about 30 years. We found her to be warm, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She began by giving us a general history of the home and then took us through each room giving a more in-depth history. We were encouraged to take our time and ask questions. This tour was of particular interest for my husband, who in researching his ancestry, found there was a family link to the battle fought here. Jean was also helpful in providing names and resources we might tap into for more ancestral information in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with her. The home and grounds are well maintained and the view of the Great South Bay is beautiful. We would highly recommend touring this site to anyone, but especially history buffs!...
Read moreI do thank Christina for giving my partner and I a very detailed tour of the manor, until a man by the name of Adam forcefully escorted us out the property driving in front of us intentionally having us drive 5 mph. We did not need a baby sitter to drive off the property all they had to say is please drive 5 mph on your way out. We than confronted him at the gate on why he was driving so slow in front of us and his response was to “ save the turtles “. He continued the argument making my partner and I feel very uncomfortable. Being apart Of the LGBT+ Community we expected to experience kind and safe and comfortable environment. We felt attacked and belittled and will never step foot on that property again. If you want to wear a mask in a hot house during a one hour tour and be berated by Adam on the way out ! Than this is the...
Read moreI'm ashamed to say I've lived here for over 30 years and have never visited the St. George. It definitely didn't disappoint! I've read a lot of reviews stating that the house is never open but when we went, not only was it open, an extremely knowledgeable and sweet girl named Christina was there to greet us in full period costume. She toured us through the house and knew every facet to every item and story. What an awesome learning experience! I'd advise anyone who hasn't been there to go. The tours are Thursday - Sunday. Not sure on exact times. I believe 11am - 4pm. We got there around 1pm and had the whole property and house to ourselves. ( tip ) Christina is only there on the weekends and she...
