Our church had our retreat here over Memorial Day weekend. This was our first time at Green Lake Conference Center and we loved it! We had 240 people, mostly families with children of all ages. God blessed us with perfect weather. Everyone had a wonderful time! The grounds are expansive - golf, biking, walks, fishing, a small beach, Judson Tower, the historic Chapel Car, and more! There are lots of open grassy areas which enabled us to set up our own activities.
I cannot say enough about the incredible staff at GLCC. As our church retreat coordinator, I sent an Email inquiry to obtain more information on pricing and available dates. Rebecca, the group scheduling director, responded so promptly. Since the first contact, we have had numerous phone calls, emails, and even 2 site visits. She patiently and efficiently worked with our church for about 2 years, as we coordinated dates and details. As our retreat dates approached, Kris and Randy contacted us to coordinate housing and conference needs. They are so accommodating, detail oriented, and were prompt to answer my many questions. During our retreat, as things came up or if we needed supplies replenished, all the GLCC staff were helpful and kind. It was clear to see that GLCC employees have servant hearts. Towards the end of our weekend, I connected with Gary. He personally sat down with me and asked for feedback and was genuinely interested in our church retreat experience. What personal service! We are so grateful for everyone!
Our guests stayed in Bauer Lodge and Roger Williams Inn. Comments from church members were positive. Suites (with mini sink, frig, microwave) were especially appreciated by families with young children. Each floor on Bauer has a room lounge area with a fireplace with a mini sink, frig, coffee, and hot water. We appreciated the amenities! Meeting spaces in Bauer are modern, clean, and were perfect for our event.
Meals were a highlight! The Kraft Dining Hall is beautiful and spacious. The food was abundant and varied -something for everyone - all you can eat and drink. The dessert bar and all you can eat ice cream were enjoyed by many! Kids and parents appreciated the kid-size buffet section that was lower for kids to serve themselves, with kid friendly food options!
I hear more improvements are coming to GLCC in the months ahead. It will be very exciting to return to enjoy more of Green Lake. Our church is already planning our next retreat at Green Lake Conference Center. Thank you to everyone at GLCC for making our retreat a success and for serving God and others! We...
Read moreAs the organizer of a four-day retreat for fifty people I can say Green Lake Conference Center is the best in class. We have held retreats at several retreat centers in the USA and GLCC has been the best experience yet. The prices are reasonable and reconciliation at the end could not have been easier.
We stayed in Bauer Lodge. The accommodations, even in the midst of COVID, clean and comfortable. though the staff will not enter your rooms they will provide clean towels if requested. Because the facility is green, they do not provide hair dryers, shampoo, conditioner, or lotion in the rooms so you will want to bring your own. These can be obtained at the front desk if needed. There are no TV's in the rooms but there is one located in the hospitality room located on each floor.
The food was as good as good as the previous year, though the dessert and ice cream bar was not up to the abundance it was in the past. That is not to say it was not sufficient. On the contrary, it had plenty of variety, just not as much as in the past. I attribute the fact that there was as much as there was to the hospitality of the staff. GLCC has the best quality food of all the retreat centers we have used in the past. Your group will be impressed.
The registration process can be handled by your group, or by GLCC, or a hybrid of the two. The event staff is professional and concerns itself with all of the details needed to make a successful retreat.
The meeting room was set up to our exact specifications. The house sound was was more than adequate. They allowed us to bring our own projector to eliminate the cost of renting one from them.
The grounds are well maintained and include a wide variety of activities from sports to quiet time. There is a lot to explore on their vast acreage.
If you are organizing an event I highly recommend looking into the Green Lake...
Read moreBeautiful and expansive grounds with so much to do and explore, all close to the lake with easy distance to Green Lake and Ripon for shopping. We stayed in the Bauer Lodge and were woken up around 2:30 by a fire alarm. No one answered the front desk phone when called, and we met outside with the few other guests who were staying in the building. After 15 minutes of standing outside on a cold October night, someone who appeared to be the property manager arrived. The call to the fire department was canceled and this man simply checked the property himself and then told us he "thought it was ok for us to return to our rooms." No cause was determined and it was a little unsettling to not have the building checked by the fire department. An hour or so later, the alarm clock in the empty room next to us went off for about 40 minutes, waking and keeping us up, and guest services had to come shut it off. In the morning, we asked if there was any compensation we could work out for having such a restless night. We usually would not bother asking but it definitely was a rough night. The first shift guest services had no clue what we were talking about and was hearing about the night's adventures from us for the first time, since nothing had been recorded or passed on from third. Perhaps there was a new person working third but the lack of communication about the fire alarm especially was surprising. I would give this place a 5 for location, grounds, and activities, but a 1 for...
