Having grown up in the area John Muir has always been a decent, small, tucked away lil nook to enjoy nature. It is the perfect place for kids to learn how to fish as its loaded with panfish (although stunted do to over population) and the fish peer is easily accessible with few weeds to hinder there learning adventure, and virtually impossible nit to catch a fish. No doubt the nature enthusiasts will be able to preech long and hard about the diversity of fish, fowl, fauna and fin but to me it will always be a harbor of fond memories including our senior school beer party, from which the County Sherrif at the time, ( Bud Corning) told me.. "Ok Gary I know you and your family, ( my big bro married one of his daughters) no one drives away until morning and not one piece of paper left on the ground when your gone and all will be good" They just don't make good ole boys like that anymore! DNR which has prooven to put a damper on virtually every piece of land they have there finger...

Probably the easiest Ice Age Trail segment, but still very much worth doing. The hike took us around 45 minutes, but we stopped frequently for photos and just to look and listen.
There is a paved parking area, shelter, restrooms, a boat launch (non-motorized), and a fishing dock here.
There is at least one gym and one Pokestop for...
Read moreThe trail is well maintained and holds up to even heavy rain the day before. It has sand, gravel and raised boardwalks preventing muddy spots almost entirely. Views of the water are generally through a natural border of trees and vegetation. But some spur paths are available to the shoreline for unobstructed views as well. The trail has very gradual elevation changes that add a nice variety to the terrain that includes fields, prairies, woods, and wetlands. I am very glad I chose to not put my earbuds in to listen to music, as there were at least a dozen different types of song birds I identified along the way using the Merlin Sound ID app on...
