Cedar Point State Park is a Must-Stop for Road Trippers
Cedar Point State Park in New York was one of the unexpected highlights of our road trip through New York, Vermont, Quebec, and Ontario. We weren’t planning on staying there originally, but a friendly local we met at a nearby brewery recommended it—and we’re so glad they did.
We asked the park staff for a recommendation, and they pointed us to Campsite #23, which turned out to be absolutely perfect. We were traveling in our SUV (no RV or camper), with a mattress in the back, and this site was exactly what we needed: quiet, right on the water, and with stunning sunset views over the St. Lawrence River. If you don’t need hookups for water or electricity, this is hands-down the best spot in the park. You can park right at the site, and it’s just steps from the shoreline.
The facilities were also great—clean restrooms and showers were just a short walk from our site, which made the stay even more comfortable. The park itself is peaceful and well-maintained, with plenty of space and scenic views all around.
As for pricing, we paid $26 USD when booking directly at the park office, but if you book online in advance, expect to pay around $33 USD. Either way, it’s a great value for such a beautiful, relaxing place.
If you’re road-tripping through the region and want a quiet, scenic spot to stay overnight or for a few days, Cedar Point State Park is well worth the stop. It’s the kind of place you’ll remember long after...
Read moreWe camped at Cedar Point this summer and loved this park. All the grounds are clean and up to date, well maintained. Showers are private with sink and bathroom and warm water. The beach area is small but did not feel crowded days we were there. Maybe on holidays it can be. The river water was very clean for kids to swim in. There’s are fishing docks and we did a lot of fishing. Our favorite was the rec room which held a time for a wide selection of versions crafts, books, games, ping pong. They had fun supplies for the kids and they loved it. The only thing I would suggest they change is the time the craft house is open. It is run by volunteers and open Mon-Thu 8am-12pm. My kids always wanted to stay longer. You can watch the cargo ships (we saw many) come through on the St. Lawrence, along with gorgeous sunsets. We will...
Read moreWhile I have camped here for years on and off and loved the park, a recent experience will keep me from ever visiting again. Last week my wife and I were boating in the st. Lawrence and we were suddenly stranded due to high winds. We pulled into cedar point and called them on the phone. We explained the situation and let them know we wanted to call for a truck and trailer to come get us. The woman was rude and only kept saying that the docks were closed and we could not tie up while we were waiting. I totally understand why the docks ere closed, (high water levels) but the utter lack of common sense on the park employee's part will keep me from returning. We even offered to pay whatever fees were necessary but nope, ...
