Lovely Family Experience, had a wonderful walk through the woods and saw so much nature. And heard all the different sounds of frogs, cricket, grasshopper, dragonfly, turtle, squirrel, chipmunk, deer with fuzzy horns as my son called it. It truly was a nice little retreat. It recharged us all and we will be back for one of the many guided tours. One last thing, I planned the trip on A Friday, but it (google) said the trails were open from sunrise to sunset but the building closed at 430pm. It was 429pm and we were behind it on Losson at Chick-fil-a. We live about 30 minutes from Depew. At other nature preserves they have a gate where they will lock at a certain time with your car being stuck in the lot and no way of getting out or unlocking. That is NOT the case here. They lock the education building and stop all going into the office where they have air conditioning for folks to chill off in, a gift shop, they loan out binoculars for children and adults and they have many animals/critters on display you can encounter their on your walks. In the parking lot, they also have 2 Car charging ports for those with electric vehicles to charge up as they walk through nature. Will be...
Read moreLovely reserve with free parking! As a person who is overweight and starting to get into hiking/nature walks this was a great entry level park. Most paths had a only slight incline and were for the most part all gravel/dirt so its easy on the knees. There were plenty of benches along the many paths at good intervals for rests if you need them and the trails wove together in such a way that at almost anypoint you could head back to the parking lot with little fuss. We walked the full loop of the reserve which was a few miles in distance but it is very much a choose your own adventure in length with some trails being only half a mile or sorter.
The woods themselves were a beautiful escape from the city. There were several ponds and loads of wildlife. My partner and I even got within about 40ft of a deer! I am excited to go back...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised to find this "hidden oasis" in a busy suburban area. The preserve is large with several very well maintained paths with a few benches and bridges along the way. The walking is fairly level & easy and most paths seem very manageable for a stroller or those with mobility issues. There are peaceful ponds, woods, swamps, & streams. There are beautiful pink water lilies in spring/summer. If you walk quietly & take your time, you will see creatures! During one visit we saw deer, turkeys, snakes, frogs, herons, egret, caterpillars, butterflies, bees, beaver dams, and beautiful trees, ferns, and flowers. There is also a very small but interesting nature center with limited hours and clean restrooms near the parking lot. A good place to be peaceful while respecting and...
